i would like to say, that i want to see some different artists. although i love the corpse bride's style i would love to see other things.

the film-
the concept for the movie is in short. a murderer trying to explain to a pretty, but dumb woman that he is going to murder her. its a black comedy

i do want it to be cartoony, but what sort of carttony?

Are you looking for people do do work for you, or links to existing work? I moved this assuming it was the first, but on rereading I'm not sure.

Sorry, I'll move this to the Lounge, you'll probably get the most response there.

hi Mx director it would help if you told us what the tone of the story is, give us a rough idea,

off the top of my head if you want striking visuals and 3d animation

the brothers Quay

the legendary Jan Svankjamer

Also look at German expressionist cinema and other things that influenced Burton

Any painter you might think would have similar elements to your film.

Until we have details we can't advise really.

my second post explains the concept of the film.
but in terms of the over all mood i hope the art direction will steer that.
"i need inspriation for its art direction"

i dont want films, i want images. 2d artwork whcih has a certain flare to it.

for example
tim burton films
art deco cartoons
the matchstick men

thanks for the help

I have a problem with any artist who asks for help with anything other than technical problems. To be a professional artist you must problem solve, find inspiration, come up with ideas, and develop unique styles on his/her own. What are you going to do if you get into a career? Go around asking everyone to give you ideas or find some references for you? While most of the time you will be elbow to elbow with a team of artists, everyone is trying to get their work done on time. Take the opportunity, while you're still in school, and learn to be mostly independent. If you like the tim burton style, rent or buy his movies and watch them. Study them. Google his sketch work for The Nightmare Before Christmas. Learn to use the resources around you instead of running to others to do it for you.

If you don't have a clue how your movie is being presented, I think you need to spend more time brainstorming in that. The art direction should compliment the film itself. The film should'nt be a slave to visual style.

The film should'nt be a slave to visual style.

Nor rely on it. Good movies start with good stories. Superfluous effects, straghtforward action and heartless characters will do nothing to help if the story isn't there.

make a film about the creature that steals single socks from the laundry.

should be a lonely homely creature that feels comfort when near the coverings of the human creatures.
