*we are battling as a team for the territory. The Illustration doesn't nessisarily have to show your affiliation it just has to Kick ass

alti, I'm assuming if we (headhunters that is) want to challenge somebody during this round then this is the place to do it as opposed to the headhunter's signup page or anywhere else. In my head I picture that the headhunter battles will happen concurrently while another battle is going on and as such if one wanted to challenge another the appropriate place would be in the corresponding battle thread, am I close?

hey alti or chaos, I kind of got the same question as Dose206 plus a dozen more :P I've tried to read the different posts and threads that explain it all but it might be a good idea to put a sticky with all the rules and ideas in it together. I think I can feel the edges and all but I still miss the big picture I'm afraid (all the stuff with the loot, who gets what, what if I'm on the dark side but draw a tower for the light side -and how will that effect my loot- how to proper challenge someone for his/her head etc). I think some of these might be answered somewhere already, but before things get out of hand it'd be nice to have them all in a single thread so we can look it up more easily.

Edit: if you need any help in here you know where to find me :) I think this activity is one of the coolest i've seen in a while, so it would be cool to see it grow and continue.

pepps - perhaps you should boost the contrast on the foreground creatures. Then they might feel a bit closer, might give the painting a bit more depth. Good concept!

Wow, people's WIPs look great already!

I decided to go for a non-fantasy, pseudo industrial setting. I originally wanted the watcher and the watchtower to be sharing a cup of tea, but I couldn't make it work with giving the watchtower some scale... So I'll just have it hold a teapot instead :P

uhm...apart from the problems viewing the image outside my PS ^^' i'm still satisfied with the mood. i've just added some details...hm..no i need to put some clouds. Values are not working too well i think...and even if it's supposed to be a bit foggy and quite dead environment i think it is quite colorless...i'd like to add some yellow eheh also i like the idea of having the people in the middle exploring the place.
At this point my only concern is if the piece matches the topic enough...Indeed there are no physic towers..as the creatures are supposed to be both...let me know...=)

Can I ask that in the next poll the imagethumbs in the poll are made in the same fashion as they did in the ChoW? As it were in the first poll, the ones making a wider drawing had a bit of an unfair advantage over those that made higher drawings, since it was only the height pixels that were set.

The ChoW was done so that there was a certain amount that was the largest, either height or width. (For medusa it was 350, if you had a wider image, it was 350 wide, if you had a higher image, it would be 350 high.)

When voting for the first poll, I had to go up and down between the poll and the images posted, since I couldn't see the quality in some that I seemed to remember was good, while some others that I wouldn't have voted for normally caught my eye because they took more space.

Just trying to make fair for all. :)

Sorknes: i don't know if this can be of any help by i'll try anyway eheh: i like the colors and the mood with the flying creatures, also the lonely feeling of the watchtower. think there is something wrong with the lake, it should probably reflect the mountains as they seem to be quite near it more thn the sun (judging by the angle of reflection...but i might be wrong with this...) or anyway recede in the distance color wise...as should the whole landscape. The mountains in the back should fade more...as they are quite far indeed. (please correct me if i'm wrong =) ) also maybe you could play a bit with the tower see if you could find some other nice design and maybe with that get some ideas on the whole piece... eheh just some thoughts =)

pepps if you have the image in Photobucket you just copy past the one with the IMG tags into the post. No need for the attachment manager at all.
if you prefer to use the attachment manager to up load the image you need to go to "Advanced"

A lot of people have had the Washed out problem. When you Save for web out of PS seems to be the problem. I've taken to adjusting the colour. Ive tried nearly eveytnhing I could think of.

chaosrocks - for some people in some threads at the bottom it says that they are not allowed to post attachments, and as such the attachment manager in the Advanced section of a post is not there. This is something that I'm sure has been brought up to the admins but I will bring it up again.
It's odd though, because in my case I can post attachments in most other threads, but none of the ones in the Art Crusades sub section.

Pepps - perhaps your color config have been messed up .. try shift+ctrl+k to change between different RGB standards... And well, I don't think you should use the "Save for web", instead just do the usual "save as" and chose jpg. There you will be able to get some better quality. Another thing, when I'm converting to jpg I don't use "Embed color profile : -the screen I'm using- ". However, you will have to accept some quality loss when converting though, but not that much.

pepps Hey man, You tend to get desaturated images if you save for web. kalas is right, what i do to make sure its a decent size for posting is go to edit, image size then make sure you have constrain proportions ticked then resize the image to about 500pixels wide or high depending on which is the largest in the original pic. Save as a Jpeg and then add it to pbucket that way...then you have a nice sized image for web viewing with no loss of quality. Hope this helps.

I am using the img tag, but being my images hosted on photobucket, and thus looking washed, i would have preferred to have them attached =)
I save as a jpeg and if i open the file in Ps it shows no remarkable change. But once i upload it on photobooth the colors are washed like chaos said.


i don't use save for web, i just save as, but i used "embed color profile". I'll try not to use it next time...see if changes something.

about the attachments i'm on the same boat as dose206, can attach in other parts of the forum..the sketchbook for example, but not here =) (neither in the "advanced" options)

hey chaosrocks, thanks for the offer =) but i've just discovered that the problem lies in my PS wich actually displays colors in a different way...Oo i tried attaching the file in my sketchbook and it shows the same as in photobucket. I'm not really sure what's wrong with Ps =)

as a side note, i'd need an opinion on my wip. The idea is that these huge creatures where used as watchers to guard the path...so they woud be both watchers and watchtowers. Is it ok, or am i out of topic? =) (wip is in the first page)

Chaos, Pepps: I've seen more people complaining here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=116453&page=2) that they couldn't attach an image in this particular area of CA. Probably an effect of the implementation of CA 4.0.

Hey folks... I've changed my dealie. Not doing a jungle/tiki thing anymore, it didn't quite work out... Now I'm doing an evil, piggish businessman in his office, a watcher in his watchtower. :D Yeah, cliche, I know. I'm pretty psyched because something has kind of clicked as far as digital painting goes with this dude... (Well, I think.)

Crits are seriously wanted. Please.

The background is temporary, just by the way, don't worry about it so much. He'll be looking out of his high-rise window. Woohoo!

Also, the first is the normal monochrome one... I'm going to add color later on. The second is just a little color test. (Color replacement tool came in handy... I hadn't used it before. Heh. Not to worry, again, only temporary.)

Hey there i decided to join the Dark Side and conquer Mord.. ähh the Wastes of ashern for my dark Lord Alti. To do so i ordered my mindless hordes to build a tall tower in the heart of the wastes. i then summoned 'Daurloth the many eyed' from my home plane to keep some eyes on my territory.

Very nice tsujni, maybe there's a little perspective problem at the bottom of your tower. Your watcher is well done, but I hope you'll work a little more on the rendering of the tower and the sky. I would just like to say something, well the topic is a watchtower not a castle :)

The unreasonably acute vision of a peculiar watcher folk of the great forest is employed to great effect in the wasteland towers of the dark hordes. Captive watchers are kept on top of the towers and equipped with an array of lenses and telescopes to further boost their legendary visual acuity. The towers themselves are formed by the summoning of an extraplanar tentacle beast within the underlying volcano chimney, which is trained to rotate and tilt the levitating omphalos in and on which the watcher stands post. A 'boid' is used to relay watcher observations with couriers on the ground.
