But if you can't read long articles just check out the pic below that's in pg. 6 of the link (worthless trivia: I animated a sprite in one of the screencaps.).
For a sec I thought CliffyB was Jason.

Interesting read, though i migth have missed a few points in the redaction.Ill read it again tomorrow.
The best remark imo was about the 2d strategy rpgs, i particularly dont like that style of game with a 3D engine, Neverwinter nights was very annoying to play indeed. I still rather grab diablo or baldurs gate rather than newer 3d games, they are still great looking in 2D.
I bought age of empires 3 thinking the game would be awesome, i was a long time player of the second, loved to play it with my friends, i saw the trailer of the third with good looking 3d scenarios and though "oh man i need to play that". The game was crap, i install it, run it, short after i began the first campaign i realize how awfull it really was, completely inferior compared with the previous 2d one. I realized that the gaming experience is ultimately what really counts. And some 2d games can still pull it off better in that aspect.

It wasn't really so much about 2D games being better than 3D, which is a good thing.
I thought it was a rather well written, healthy and unbiased comparison between the two mediums.
I believe that Final Fantasy 6 is still a million miles better than the others.
Maybe I'm starting to getting old, but I believe there is something more magical about 2D games and animation.

Great article, but what about vector graphics like in many games done in flash?

I do so agree with that. There was that magical quality to 2d games in the past (loved playing all the older FFs, and things like Golden Axe on the Genesis), and I still would prefer a 2d animated film than a 3d one.
Monkey Island 1 was amazing, then I looked at the later ones in 3d and it just lost the whole great feel of it. Maybe it's just a case of nostalgia.

That magical quality of 2d games you guys are mentioning. It's the quality of being young and imaginative when you played them. Of course its gonna be different now that you're older. You'd feel the same way even if games were made the exact same way they were in the early 90's.
