I am looking at a portable sharpener that have the closest quality of a real sharpener. I got an electric Xacto sharpener which is awesome , but alas it is not generous with worn out short bits. I need a portable. I don't like the regular small sharpener we find there and there because the duration of the sharpened pen is too short. And I hate doing it manually with a knife like people tend to recommend me with a 'hey I'm smart' attitude.
I'm leaning toward Steadler since it never haven't let me down and always true quality, but I want to make sure if by any chance had better experience with another brand.
Thanks :)

Maybe try a battery-powered sharpener? They make small ones that you can take with you in your pack.

I checked around and several different companies do make them (Boston, X-acto, etc.) and they can be found at most office or art supply stores. Mine is X-acto Buzz and I'm quite happy with it. (http://www.xacto.com/ProductDetail.asp?id=81)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it extremely easy to get a good pencil sharpener? A small one you can carry around.

Like I said, every regular portable sharpener always have that kind of odd smaller sharpening that the real mecanical/electrical sharpener. I always find they don't have that sharp angle that the standard usually do. I was at Staple yesterday and I didn't see that smaller portable sharpener. I will try another place.

Looks nice, question for you (or Shrew), how these handle small pencils? do they still sharp until it almost finished or they still leave a large gap on the remaining pencil? (I don't know how to say it better)

I'm not sure what you mean by small pencils. All I know is that it handles regular pencils well...it gives it a shorter cone than electric sharpeners, but it's sharp and even.

small pencils I mean, when you used a pencil for a long time, they went they reach the size of your thumb :D I know a lot of people just throw them away, but me I use them on the back of my pen eraser, that always extended their life.
My old electric sharpener before dying was generous for those tiny pencils, but not my newer one. So I sharp the remaining pencil with a portable sharpener, but I don't like the cone of it. I like tighter cone like my new electric sharpener do.
Do I made myself clearer? I hope so :)

Oh...short pencils. Yes, those small sharpeners handle short pencils very well. If your pencil is only as long as your pinkie, it will definitely handle it.
