Okay, we're gonna get this show back on the road. As you probably know, Seedling has been up to naughty things and is now in the early stages of pickles-ice cream-and-spam with peanut butter, so...we're rounding up some help from the big world to help us out in our weekly silliness...
To get you warmed up, and to allow me enough time to catch up and take care of the nice people who submitted to my last assignment, we're going to do an easy one this week. You have till Saturday the 26th to submit something...
Your assignment, in honor of Seedling's current "adventure" into unexplored territory, is...
Disgustingly Cute...EEEeeeeeeeeeewwwwww...
Have you noticed those awful stories on TV where a poor little kid is missing and they have some police artist create a face to circulate? ACK! They always end up looking like something from a bad spooky movie...
I know we can do better. So what we're gonna do is some fairly decent sketches of something that is utterly sickeningly CUTE. Whatever you want, and as many as you want...kitties puppies, little kids, your girl friend, your pet lizard, the fairie that lives under your bed, you name it. Nothing fancy, nothing to any extreme finish-level, just the basics, ma'am. I want to suffer a sugar overdose. You can go to any extreme you wish on this one...cartoonish, realistic, you name it.
This may sound like a silly assignment, and it is, but it has a very real purpose. It is EXTREMELY difficult to show something that affects a viewer's emotional triggers. We want someone's mother to go "AWWWWWWW!" when they stop in here. If you can do this, you can move on to other emotional grabbers, like disgust (my favorite), terror, fear, annoyance, and all that other persnickity shit that is just a pure pain to del with in art.
This is done with expression, pose, the way the body and head relate to each other, posture, any accessories you include, etc.
Good luck...

Sadly I don't have much time for assignments this week, but couldn't pass up this one... so here's a quick sketch...

Reminds me of those old Margaret Keane paintings...don't know if that's the same artist that also had the plethora of black velvet paintings of big-eyed waifs, kitties, puppies and sad clowns back in the early to mid seventies. I always saw a ton of them for sale on the roadsides in Hawaii. :)

Congratulations Seedling!!!!!!!!
I had a couple of ideas for this. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to draw cute animals. They always end up just looking goofy. Many props for you Arish, your puppy looks adorable.
Anyway, this was the best I've come up with so far. In a way, this reminded me of Boo from Monster's Inc.
I wish I was a better artist, so that my drawings could look more like I envision them in my head. Oh, well. I guess that's why I'm here... to learn.

Hello! This is my first post after trying to register for days... there's something wrong with the registration image. I'm still trying to sift through all the corners of the massive collective but one of the first places which caught my eye first was the Mentoring forum. What a great and noble place to be and learn... T^T
I've been drawing for a few years but only manga illustrations and comics. I've decided to take this stuff more seriously though so I'm here to get back to the basics. Seems like I've missed the start of some cool classes but this piece of homework is just my thing! If you've been drawing big-eyed manga you will know what cuteness is all about. XD Uhmm yeah I'll try to steer away from manga while I'm here. ^^

Hey, applecheeks. Welcome to the board and to our random little "class." That's a pretty good image. Not extremely cute, but cute and well done.
curse: Yep, sickeningly cute.
tatiana: Ahh! So many big eyes! That much and verges on disturbing.
Congrats, seedling, on your upcoming bundle of joy!

Quite uninspired this week, but managed to dig up some old sketches and found drawings of random things e.g. baby raccoon in a takeaway box, chibi santa and [literally disgustingly cute] - a poop monster!
Congrats seedling with your upcoming bundle of joy!

Thanks guys. :) I think you're right Chaos... I kinda took the easy way out - making a corgi puppy look cute isn't very difficult.
Decided to do another one for fun, not exactly disgustingly cute but fairly cute I think. :P

It looked better before I somehow made it look all scribbly. Properly rendering fur would actually make for a cool future assignment Ilaekae! *hint* ;)

sorry for being late... I'll keep an eye on these topics in the future, they seem to be fun...
not _too_ cute, just some little drawing I made for a funny, childish "thank you" card recently :) devil and haibane (Haibane Renmei anime) egg creatures:

I just found this section, and though it's terribly late, I present to you my cat Zippy, who is in fact the latest incarnation of the Buddha, in his usual state of meditation. He radiates love.

This certainly doesn't compare with Sangmort's squeezable bunny, but I finished something at last!
