Personal Artwork...

I've had some time to spend on my personal artwork and have finished a piece. When viewed full size, it will be about 6 feet wide, so the reduced image here does not really show it well. The details help give a better sense.

It was done using Photoshop and involves both photo manips and digital painting.

It seems to me to be quite a departure from what I remember of your very photorealistic paints/scapes. Great to see this kind of exploration. Your skill and diversity as an artist is inspiring. :)

This has a very nice almost Picasso-esque feel to it.

Steeldolphin... Yeah - big file - in memory it's about 1.5 gig - saved to disk, it's about 300 meg. Thanks for your nice comment...

Here is a photo that gives a sense of scale to the picture. It's of a prototype print pieced together from sectional prints of the whole picture.

Thanks Android... This is a personal direction that I've been working on since the late 60's when I was an art student.

For example, below are a few thumbnails to oil paintings I did as a student. The first is based on one of the artists that top my list, Francis Bacon.

Most of the work I've posted in the past has been my illustration stuff. However, I'm now moving toward full time work on my "real stuff," as seen above... :chug:

You were really good in your student years, but what happened that you didn't follow the route of an artist ? Financial reasons ?

What makes you think I didn't follow the "route of an artist." What is the route of an artist...? hmmm...

After art school I got very interested in sound as a medium of art and spent 12 years producing audio pieces while making a living as a freelance location sound engineer for film production to support the tools of my art. I gave several sound shows a year in various theaters and galleries around the Philadelphia area. Working in the film industry (and traveling the world as a result) provided wonderful opportunities to collect sound effects for my library... or palette. A number of my pieces produced during that time can be found on my website (http://www.eyewoo.com/index.php?via=conceptAudio) in the audio section.

Then in the early '80s while trying to use computers to get a handle on my out-of-control sound library, I got totally blown away by programming computers and spent the next 10 years as a freelance programmer... Then in the early '90s when desk top computers started showing promise as tools for creating visual art, I migrated over to website design and illustration.

Now I'm getting away from illustration and moving toward what might be called my personal art, or fine art -- though who knows what that is, eh!

At any rate, I've never tried to make a living with my personal art - audio or visual. I've always done something else to make money, like freelance location recording or website design and illustration. It's always bothered me that the idea of making money with my personal art would basically pollute it... but now I'm at a point where I don't need to work as hard for money, so I'm spending more and more time on my personal art. It's a great place to be... :)
