here is the link at cgtalk thread- http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=88955
and here is the link they give you can see pictures and more about the dvd's under the Analog section. http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/videos.html
I will be getting these no doubt. I think a mod should put these with the announcements if they're not doing that already.

Well there's the ones under those thats called sculpture series that are either 69$ a piece or a set. The Feng ones I think are in a bundle and I have no idea the price hopefully they aren't 69$ a piece. Though I would drop down 100-200$ for those thank god christmas is coming up.

I bought a few dvd in the past for 70 bucks so i'm assuming they will cost about that much; however, there should be a student price version of the DVD for 50 or 40 I think? Unless that was a limited time offer kinda gig.
this should defently be a good purchase convice alex to let Mark Goerner make one next! :D

Alex Alvarez posted the pricing info over at CG Talk. The discs will be $69 each but if you're a student you get a 29% discount brining it down to $49 each. They will also be releasing an analog bundle on the 29th which will included Deng's concept art dvds and the sculpure dvds at a 10% discount. If you're a student you get a 29% discount on top of that.
I'm starting to wish that I hadn't bought the sculpture dvds when they came out so I could gte the bundle now.

The dvds are now up for ordering at the site http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/title.shtml . I've just spent a sizable chunk of my own money on all four of them, now comes the 7-10 business day waiting period and the worry about what the exchange rate is going to be doing when they process the order.
Who else is getting these now?

how do you get student pricing? can I jsut use a digital camera to take a pic of my student id and email it?
Arkady
September 30th, 2003, 02:57 AM
They need a drivers liscence and a school ID with dates on it for the 29% school discount. What you have to do is place your order, and then they put it on hold until you e-mail them the IDs at the address they specify. You can also snail mail em or fax em too.

That $365 is for the whole analog bundle which includes 2 sculpture dvds. The student discount really helps... I picked up the sketching and digital painting dvd's for $49 us a piece. Not bad considering it's intensive instruction from one of the best concept artists around.
With your student discount you could pick up all for Feng dvd's for under $200.
Looking forward to the dvd's, Feng... :D

Well, since no one will answer my questions in a thread I started I will try to ask here.
Would a beginner benefit from Feng's DVD's?
strych9ine
October 2nd, 2003, 11:24 AM
spok, yes... high school students are eligible for discounts on all gnomon dvd's. You just have to provide them with proof of education, usually in the form of a school ID and driver's license. 50 bucks ain't bad, dude. Not bad at all...
Van, I'm still waiting to recieve mine but I'm sure you would benefit from any teaching. i don't know Feng's teaching style, but I wouldn't have invested the cash into these vids if I didn't believe I would learn a lot.

Thanks, man. I guess I am just afraid it will be taught at such an advanced level that I wouldn't grasp it at my stage.

my review of the DVD's so far.....well i already have all 4 and so far i have just watched the sketch dvd, but let me tell you, its a 9/10, he goes through the entire process with many different mediums, and he is going through explaing about everything as hes doing it, very informative, he never stops talking =) the only reason it isnt a 10 out of 10 is cause it will not make you as good as him after watching....bummer, but these are worth the money. Its like taking an at home class.

Ok...ok. I can do that...in fact, some of my lines look ok when put together so far. Well, I guess I will drop some bucks and get them. So now for my next question..
If I can only get one at a time...which one would you, or anyone else, suggest I get first? Sketching?

October 2nd, 2003, 01:58 PM
van - anything you can get your hands on when your starting out art is priceless. These dvds will surely help you out a lot.
As far as which dvd you should get first, I would go with the sketching one because that's what you do first with a drawing so its only logical to buy that one first.... that's what I plan on doing. You should probably save the photoshop coloring one for last because thats the last step.

I watched the Vehicle Design DVD and highly recommend it. Feng covers a design from thumbnail to finish and talks you through the whole process. The image is basically his sheet of paper and his hands periodically zooming in and out so that you can see the detail as well as the big picture. The second vehicle design is completed and then he talks you through redrawing the the design from a different perspective.
Good job Feng!

I watched the vehicle design last night. I couldn't go to sleep before I watched one, I was too curious. And to my curiousity it was amazing. Very fundemental, a good review of things/tips forgotten, and breaking down the image.
Good work.
Polycube: I doubt the price will go down for a long time. I know the maya DVDs havent gone down in price with their age. The last price drop was on all the DVD's because they where 99$ each i believe.

hmm.. 70 bucks a piece... x 4 = 280... x 1.36 current exchange rate to CSD = 380.8... plus the $200 (csd) dvd player for my puter i'd have to buy... well! there goes half a paycheck. :( be worth it though.
heh, Feng actually posted here in the lounge about his interview on the day it came out, not many people saw it i guess. :)

So, my girlfriend got me one of the tutorial DVD's (really awesome, I recommend them highly) for our anniversary a few weeks ago. Anyway, my roommate, who's studying graphic design, was pulling an allnighter with his girlfriend and they were cutting a million little sheets of paper and spray mounting them.
I guess they ran out of rulers and other straightedges of their own, so I find that they were USING MY FENG TUTORIAL DVD CASE as a straightedge!!!!! Shit's got spraymount all over it and the box is cut up. Goddamn it.
Just pissed and felt like venting. This thread could use a bump too.

im tossing up between environment design and sketching
env. design seems to cover a lot of the sketching topics anyway - i mainly need to work on perspective and rendering skills, so i thought it would be the best one. it also has thumbnail generation.
im still an undeveloped artist so any recomendations on what i should get? i can only afford one :'(
