My proposal is finished. Now I am hunting agents and publishers. If you know of any connections, please send them my way!

The Art of Being A Dad (the First Seven Years)

Behind the scenes of working Concept Artists, a handful of us are parents and dads and have little people crawling around our feet and under our drawing tables. As a freelancer artist, and married to freelance writer, I equally co-parented and raised two girls (now 10, 12). I started to have all these interesting insights into life, kids, being a man, an artist, and a dad.

The book is my art, the kids art, and text.

cute idea, this'll be awsome for your kids when they grow up too. I'm not too sure about some of your typographical choices, and some of the filters kind of stand out too and detract a little from the scrap book/handmade feel. Good luck with your proposal

yeah i was just gonna say that, the filters you've used in some places really stick out too much, they take away from the "hand made" feeling you've created

and go easy on the strokes/outlines around some of the text

Yes, it's been an interesting book to design. Definitely a commercial project. I wanted to follow my own intuitions of look and feel (allow whatever came up while I was designing), and do wondered about ultimately who is going to buy, look at, and enjoy this book.

The end goal is dads, then dad and kids, then it will mostly be moms who buy the book in the first place. Less artists and less high end designers will buy the book, those who can actually see outline strokes. (love that feedback)

Definitely like the hand-made feeling.

thanks

i'd buy one man. i'm a 25 year old freelancer with 3 kids running around my feet! so i relate to this pretty well. it's not a subject that's talked about as often as i'd like, so thank you for making the effort.
