That was really awesome. In the name of science and understanding, they don't talk about what happened to the ants when they soused the structure with concrete, just how much work this took to create (would love to know a projected how long ago this was built on date!) amazing to see.

Inspiring indeed :P Although during the whole movie I couldn't help thinking that since this is the 21st century wouldn't there be a smarter way to conduct this research than just dumping in tons of concrete and then excavate it for three weeks?

Very cool.
Hearing carbon dioxide described as a "deadly gas" makes me go WTF? Particularly coming from people who just poured ten tons of cement on top of an ant city.

CO2 is quite deadly in a couple ways.
A couple percent increase in co2 will cause you to hyperventilate and pass out, eventually causing death. CO2 concentration is what regulates your breathing rate, more CO2 and you breath faster.
Or an all CO2 atmosphere would be deadly as there is no oxygen

Ants are amazing, I heard that they live as much as bigger organisms in such a short time because of how fast they do things. But I still hate to have them in my pants ;)

Ants will be the next rulers of this planet. Mark my words.

Yeah, i'm not sure if this is incredibly cool, or incredibly sad.
It reminds me of contact, when they're talking about whether aliens would be hostile or not.
"Why would they go so far out of their way just to destroy us, when we are like one tiny ant hill in africa?"
"And how bad would you feel for destroying an anthill?"

I love how the scientist just came and fucked up the ant colony while the narrator continued to speak so passionatly about how amazing they were.

I read (on a blog that linked to this video) that the ants were transported to another colony before this one was filled with concrete. Probably a nicer one, with an indoor pool and wall-to-wall carpeting.

Yeah, and don't get me started on the terrifying properties of water!

Really helpful and inspiring to me, due to implementing some of the ant life and environment into one of my alien species I am working on. :) Just amazing! Thanks man!

Are you saying water isn't deadly?
Awesome video, ants and the idea of a collective hive mind always fascinated me!
