hey !
very cool sketchbook pages.
i like your pencils very much, especially the perspective views of the ladies ;)
but really nice flow in all of your lines. very lively.
but i have some problems with the digital colored pieces.
the colors just dont want to jump to life somehow, in fact i miss the depth in most of them, seems you do little abstraction or close looking at nature.
rather you seem to use photoreferences (which is basically ok for sure) and copy the flat colors.
there is so much more going on in color varieties, maybe its all to sketchy to judge it from that point of view, but learning from life and closely observing what is there to see, not what you think you know about any given object, would add life to the colors as much as in your pencils and figures.
just my 2 cent, keep up the good work !
Ian Mack
February 14th, 2008, 09:24 AM
I'd have to agree about the use of photo refs...you're people look great but the landscapes felt flat to me as well. I've gotta wonder what size sketchbook you're working with! I really like how you push the figures so much yet are still able to bang out something completely different as well. First the cars, then the castle, then the robots. It's something that I want to start doing in my SB. The only other thing I can note is that you're skipping out on the rendering of the fingers in most of your figures. Great work though!

Man! great great lines. your pencil work is very strong and confident man.
On the digis, it seems to me that the confidence is a bit shaken eh? they are a bit too blurry. Judging by your strokes in the pencil realm Id say switch your digi brushes to something more rude and less airbrushy cos you can do it.
Love the brunette painting you did on page one.
Cheers buds

Just had an amusing look through your wonderful sketchbook, Danka. For a moment I almost thought, that I had found something to bellyache about, the - in comparison to the diversity of the other figures - rather "uniform" type of females you draw, but then I saw the fat woman... so I have no other chance, than to just express my admiration for your skills.

Thanks for taking the time to attach notes to your stuff about ref material. I feel a little guilty, I kind of meant 'in the future' and 'for the major works'. I didn't mean for you to go through everything and label it. Kudos for the effort, though, it made it much more interesting to look at your sketches and compare what came out of your head and what came from other sources.

very nice sb. your pencils are very good and your digis are coming along nicely however your photo refs are looking slightly better than your non refs. i really like the stylization going on throughout here. i'd like to see the colors and values pushed a bit more for your digis, more of what you're doing w/ the last aliens would be good. but other than that definitely keep it up man.

I really love the lighting on that last alien face. I'm also a big fan of that last tower/city thing. Very good work with the non-refs. I think it's already been mentioned, but you could push your values a little more. I feel like you're using too many halftones and highlights and not enough intense shadow.
Very fine sketchbook.

Hi there, you got awezome skillz, and i was just wondering, are you satisfited with your current level of drawing? Do you feel you cant draw something or you can draw anything you want? Are your possibilities limited? These questions doesnt give peace for me... I'm wondering what will be when i reach your level.. Thanks, hope you answer me :)

Those last character are looking great. The attention to all the details is a good one too as well as the linework. Where are you inking them? Photoshop? Only crit I have is with the last piece. The perspective is looking a bit wonky. By looking at the area near the door, it suggest more of a top point view for which the doctor and bed are not quite fitting in. Just something to keep in mind.

You character all have a nice appealing quality to them. The lady with the musket is particularly nice.

Hi all,
I want to leave you a little speed image done some days ago, before start my holiday!
I don't know why I realized this sad image, but I had a vision of that and I create it.
I used a tecnique little bit different then my usual.
All the shapes (ruins in foreground, electric pole, the big building in the middle, the buildings in background...) are "silouettes" with a bit of color gradient, and every elements are brightnes and less contrasted than the one behind, to give a sense of depth, like fog or smoke effect...then I put some textures as filter on the diferent layers and add some detail with quik brush touch.
Hope you like it.
Bye bye

I like those silhouette painting experiments, seems like an interesting way of getting some instant atmosphere to an environment.

Hi all, thanx thanx thanx again for all replies, votes, comment, compliments...
Almost all of you said that I have solid and clean lines...but you should consider that I polish my first rough version and go over the lines of a drawing again to reach a clean line... ;-)
I use very much a kneaded eraser (putty rubber?) to clean my pages.
New pages with a digital touch of color...

- Man u leave me without words, your drawings are amazing. especially the SKETCHBOOKS. Unfortunately for me I lost the will to draw on the SKETCHBOOKS, im using only the computer because is much easier to draw on the computer. and this is a problem that I will try to change it
- When I see how others are able to draw without the help of sophisticated software, without the aid of programs and computers, I feel like throw myself from the balcony on the 10th floor :(
- Sometimes I think about how it was when I had no computer, anyway you guys who draw with traditional methods give me one more reason to live thanks :D :D :D
