I haven't been too active in this forum, so I want to start anew.

I've been working hard lately to improve my drawings, trying to move away from the anime look I've been so accustomed to. Tried my hands at environmental paintings too, which was pretty fun after all.

The following are collections (new) of my artworks, from character art to environmental speed paintings, which are done in less than one hour (a goal I've set for the new year). Each month will have a different theme; this month is WINTER SCAPE.

Below are the speedpaintings. I was trying to go for a quick basic look and feel of the concept and skip out on the details in little time as possible. The fastest I've done is 35 min on the last one.

Below are couple of character art I've done this month. Something new I'm trying; loose, sketchy style with not so much detail and showing some dynamic feel to the figures.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome and I'll take every one of them to heart. After all, I'm always looking for improvement.

More to come.

In the pic of the guy with the guns, his hands are amazing, very well done, but i believe his face is a little strange!

Looking good!

i love your colour values - theyre really great. i think you need to work a bit more on anatomy though. have you ever read loomis?

As matter of fact, I heard about him when I was reading about Alex Ross, who by the way is an awesome DC comic artist. I have been working too hard on trying to make the figures more realistic and not so anime-ish that I do tend to forget some important things, like proportions and such. But I'm always learning with every image and hopefully one day I'll nail it down from head to toe. Thanks!

Whoa, your colour studies look amazing! Seems like you've got a good grasp of them hues. Some of the speedpaints look a tad fuzzy, maybe using a harder brush will help? Still great pieces!

Your use of texture and patterns impresses me as well, like in the picture with the gunman. Definitely adds life to the picture. Keep it up! :D

Not bad at all. You draw very good hands. A couple suggestions: Your shadows are looking a bit flat, and kinda muddy. Instead of just using a darker version of your base color, try adding in a bit of a complimentary color to your shadows. E.g., for skin tones, add a bit of blue or purple, etc. Also, when you paint hair, don't try to paint individual strands like that. Paint it as if it's a solid mass, or a collection of solid masses, then throw in some individual strands on top of it. Keep it up!

I see what you mean. I sometimes get the same vibes too, that the colors come out a bit muddy. When I do watercolors I would block in the shadows with blues or purples, and I'm trying to do that in Photoshop as well. I'll definitely have to learn to mix in more colors.
As for the hands, well they are the most difficult part of the body to draw, for me at least, so I rely heavily on ref pics.

Thanks for your feedback! :rocker:

I should really like to go back to doing some environmental sketches as I did before, but I'm all caught up on getting the basics of character art that when I'll ever go back is a big fat ?
