Cool to see how concept art was presented and look like way back then. Just fast forward a bit if you find Walt's intro getting boring. Part 2's not bad. Lighter fluid as oil painting medium? Interesting.

Neato. I'm looking for general information about 2d animation (made an own thread about it (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115924)). Not sure how much backgrounds I will try, but it's definetely interesting :)

wow....fascinating. Reminds me of how fun art is. Something to learn here folks. I love how Walt Disney quoted Robert Henri.

One problem though...the first video is not available anymore...:(

It's still there, just click it and let it load in youtube and it will be fine. Videos sometimes mess up when they're hotlinked for some reason

This video was great, I really liked that bark painting :)

This video is included on the Sleeping Beauty 2-disc DVD set. There is some more content there concerning the background paintings and Eyvind Earle, who was the driving force behind the look.

This is my favorite Disney film, precisely because of those glorious forest backgrounds.

Eyvind Earle's personal work tends to be a bit more abstract, but it's still great.

It's amazing how he started out with flat abstract shapes, and then he rendered it to represent the actual objects.

That's the first time I've ever seen Walt Disney and Disney artists on video.
Hugely inspirational.

A video about Disney animators that I recommend is Frank and Ollie (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000TAYSO/frankanolliec-20).

They have a website (http://frankanollie.com/) too, though Frank has passed away.

Same here.

I fully agree as well. Very, very inspirational. It's great to watch these men speak both so passionately and leisurely about their artwork.

Thanks for posting these man.
