Hey Mentoring Artists!
I'm a baby baby artist in college -barely out of my first art semester! woohoo!!
So I am trying to work on pieces for shows around the area, only they want digital submission before they are actually accepting artists. Here are a few pieces I've photographed on my own but I feel they look very amaturish (the photographs).
Any tips or advice on how to get my pieces to look like they were scanned in a photograph?
Thanks for your help!
JD

hi
its hard to tell what medium the color piece is.
I have the best luck photo-ing work in bright overcast out door light. usig a tripod
I assume you dont have a lot of equipment, ie lights reflector umbrellas etc
with most work, over cast and then color adjust in PS. (the auto adjust will usually do it but sometimes you have to do it by hand
the bigest challenge is getting the images square and not have to adjust parrellax . although thats easy enough to fix in PS
too.
frame your work in a plain border and title and put your name on the image but not too boldly. I do show entries all the time , and my husband judges 2-3 shows a year. believe me ..put your name and contact info on EVERYTHing!
pm me if you nee dmore info, I will try to help

Dan Dos Santos made a cool oil painting tutorial a while back, where he also touched on the subject of photographing your art. Do a search for DSillustration + oil painting tutorial or something like that.

Use a tripod
Make sure the camera is perfectly perpendicular to the artwork
Shoot outside on a foggy/overcast day
