I'm glad you guys are enjoyin' this stuff.. I sure as hell am and not to mention the practice it's giving me : ) .. I'm starting to think if it goes further that it would make a pretty cool coffee table book.. sorta a conversation piece...

Sammy, the one footed thingies (just to use technical terms), reminds me of Fancis Bacon. Well, not so much of him, just his work. I think we were talking about him a couple of days ago...or maybe not.

Either way, francis bacon (the hit or miss king) is always a good time for halloween.

November 2nd, 2003, 06:11 PM
This is reference to sammy post awhile back with a pirate. Check out the contour line, they are the same. The challenge, to sammy, was to draw something within those lines. This is where those lines came from. Kinda an old school throw back to what the dadist did...exquisit (spelling anybody?) corpse. I've seen a couple sequintial kids do entire comic books like this. They got the rating of Rad.

http://www.jaksongram.com/temp/pirate01.jpg

I left the sketch in the background because the white seemed boring, now it just looks unprofessional. I guess that was a learning experience. I am not much of a colorist, I'll post my line work (which looks better) the next time I leave my apartment.

Sammy

Rock on Dylan, it was nice to see how we came to very different concepts... you're line rocked by the way, I really really liked the ambiguity and then how the bird-house was so obviouse, neat :) ..

post that other linework you have too.. that golem you had worked up.

I call this...'I am elipse-a-tard.' or 'Gumbolem'.

http://www.jaksongram.com/temp/gumbot01.jpg

here is the line work to download and color. if it shows up in some one's portfolio (not that it is worthy) i am serously mean enough to show up at your house, barge down the hall way, do dirty things to your sister, your mom, and your dad; then kill you. No, really.

Gumbolem Lines [300k] (http://www.jaksongram.com/temp/gumbot02.jpg)

My favorite thing about gumbolems are the sound effects, which you get to make up. There is an illustration from a story about a war. 40 Dadaist VS Earth's Super Power Goverments. I might post parts of it some day.

DigitaL FusioN Thanks :) But seriously, I am a horrible colorist... I strugle alot with light sources and how colors work with them.... nevermind figuring out which programs to use, and the tool & palette systems... I just get frustrated and give up... I can never get that organic natural medium look I want.... :( I'd love to see what youve done.... I use deviantart.com alot when sharing stuff.... they dont seem to have any bandwidth limits....

Thanks so much you guys... I love seeing that colored.. means alot... I've never seen any of my work in color like this, but have always wanted to.

WOW! awesome everyone, thanx for bringing this thread to life!

I've broken away from studies to find some inspiration. I was flippin' through one of my Civil War books and came across this drummer-boy.

*Drummer boy John Clem of the 12th Michigan, just ten years old, became celebrated as "Johny Shiloh" after an artillery shell smashed his instrument during that battle. During the Federal retreat at Chickamauga in 1863, he would shoot a Confederate who dared try to take the artillery caisson upon which he was riding, and win himself new headlines as "the Drummer Boy of Chickamauga." He remained in the army all his active life and retired as a major general shortly before the First World War.*

I don't mind at all. I love the softness you've added to it. Very nicely done.

Phuzion - Thanks man. You brought out her character really well. The white streaks were actually added last, I thought something was "missing".

Atmospheria - Thanks! I wanted to play around with saturated colours. Your girls are unique especially that last piece. Any more nice girls from you?

killing.people - The brush I usually use is the chalk without the 'Dual Brush' and 'Texture'. I find it looks more like a flat brush. I also had few other customs I sometimes use for textures. You handled the natural lighting really well.

I really need to get my hands on a data tablet; using the mouse severly frustrates me. Anyway, I hope you like it Killer Napkins, be it ever so humble. Thanks for letting me experiment and mess around with your piece!

Not that the drawings or colorings are bad, but I am tired of looking at 'babes'. Here is something different for a challenge. Enjoy and be creative.

I don't know how creative I got with the color, but I thought I would give the sperm guys a shot.

here goes:
http://www.bradkurz.com/sperm03.jpg

I liked your underlay a lot, so I stayed pretty true to it. Nice compositions, but I am not crazy about the furniture and mugs. Since I was too lazy to come up with something new, I colored them anyway. Whaddya think?

By the way, this is my first post. I promise to post some sketches and feedback and stuff soon.

Awesome work everyone!
