View Full Version : Where to begin, again?

I haven't actually painted in about four years and I'm not sure where to pick up again. I still remember a bit of the basics and I've been working with vector artwork (Flash MX; 3D animation) for a while now. I'm planning on just practicing painting some things around me (landscape, fruits and bowls) but I'm wondering if I should focus on certain areas/techniques in particular?

And sorry if this is in the wrong section. I forgot my way around this place!

You could try one of the Classroom for All assignments as a warmup, perhaps. The link is in my sig. . .

Pez? I'm out of the loop, I don't get inside jokes any more.

Thanks! The links were quite helpful. I'll check out the Classroom for all Assignments. Since I'm on the act of asking silly questions: Is it fine to leave my oil splattered paint brushes in non-flammable turpentine and simply rinse with water? I've been using this method but I'mma thinkin' it's not the best.

Hey Chris, nice to see another Ontario...er.... or whatever the hell we're called, here :)

I recall coro going around to a few sb's and commenting saying something along the lines of 'don't worry about rendering, just draw. Anyone can render, it's just work, learn how to draw interesting things.'

obviously not a direct quote, but makes sense. If you're rusty, take some time drawing first, getting into the structure of things before going into painting again right away. No amount of painting can save a bad drawing afterall :)

Glad to help. :) (I'm the Pez dispenser, by the way.)

There's yet another link in my sig to a thread on oil-painting. Try posting your questions about oils there. More knowledgeable people than I post there.
