Hello!

Ok..In a few words, I LOVE REMBRANDT's WORK.

I've seen some copies of Rembrandts in some sketchbook threads and stuff... SO, All of you guys who do master copies and other drawings that may be inspired by Rembrandt, Share =) wips too.

I'd love to see in wich way Rembrandt may be reflected on other artists and learn with that... discuss also.

Lets call this like a TRIBUTE THREAD TO THE MASTER =)

Here is an super small acrylic painting made by my father (rembrandts self portrait) and a digital painting i'm doing (Portrait of Nicolaes Ruts) Im learning so much doing this one. Rembrandt puts it so simple.. yet so complex!

panchosimpson : Nice =) your drawing is making me want to "move" my lazy ass and make some copies of rembrandts etchings and later aply the technique in front of the mirror with self portraits :D

Here is one i did at Oporto's downtown in summer2007.. i had no support, i literally did it on the midle of the street

If you want to see a great modern day painter who's immensely influenced by Rembrandt (some even call him a modern day Rembrandt) check out David Leffel.

David Leffel is a very good painter from what i've seen of his work, I probably wouldn't go as far as saying he is a modern day Rembrandt, though.

David Leffel is very evocative of Rembrandt, but I've noticed that he doesn't exhibit near the range as Rembrandt did.

I don't have any recent/decent work that was inspired by or copied from Rembrandt, but this is a great thread.

Rembrandt is great for studying chiaroscuro, brushtrokes, maybe some narrative paintings (you have to know the bible),also maybe some hatching but he is too free to really be able to copy..apart from that his drawing skills are not that impresive...yes he had a great imagination..but sometimes his figures are out of proportion..beautiful faces though..I have seen a few Rembrandts i was not that impressed..Oh yeah Leffell is a nice painter..i have one of his books ..he gives you useful advice. I will do a copy of Rembrandt soon..i need to restudy the master,great thread by the way.

Im 16 years old and im from Brazil, and my drawing is very poor compared to yours...but i love Rembrandt and Caravaggio, so im posting a drawing that i made based on a rembrandt's painting. Please, can you critique it? ( sorry about my bad english)

Rembrandt would have been an excellent storyboard artist. I love his drawings even more than his paintings, and I love his self portraits.
