My buddy Cheeks drew this up, I did a quick color for him. This wasnt the final version of his sketch, but he told me to throw this up anyways.

lose the corniness around the edges

Yeah, I find the filmclip edges distracting. With that said, I think you've done a good job. I like the loose line work...has a lot of energy. The realistic clouds, though, clash with the foreground's cartoony style. I would ditch them and go with something more stylized. I wouldn't be afraid to use a regular paintbrush to define values in the rocks and sand. As it stands now, it seems to feathery and smooth.

Another couple of things I would consider:

1. Have the siloutte head/figure of a Tuskan Raider(s) surrounding him. I think it would enhance the drama of the piece, considering he's on an edge of a cliff and must resort to battle.

2. Try flattening the layers, duplicate the the one layer and with the bottom layer colorize it with a warm monocromatic tone using hue/saturation. Then on the top layer use the eraser airbrush tool at low opacity and lightly erase areas of color here and there. The warm underpainting will hold the painting together more, instead of having blocks of local color.

Anyhow, these are my crits. Again, you did a great job! These are just some considerations to toy with.

Daniel: this wasnt his finished piece, it was just a random color.
