thats cool...but how about makin the shades darker and addin some highlights to define the shapes a bit better?

If you push your values and add more color they could be great! They are now mostly a single shade (e.g. brownish) but you can add extra colors to define shape (not oversaturate but add warmer and cooler areas) -- look at for instance El Coro, Android or Jason Manley -- that way you can really make 'em work, since they have volume already.

though more contrast is certainly necessary, these really are quite funky!

Very nice bold style .... I quite like the sorta pastel shaded feel to em ... granted some may be a little better with some more contrast, but on the whole I very much like where your going with these.

I do not know if I like the "smeary" look. The concepts themselves are excellent. Unique.
edit: on second look, maybe it is the "smeariness" that makes them look unique. ;)

thats looking nice, molin, the rendering is superb. I like the smeariness, thats exactly how i work these days. There are some elements in your work that remind me of Feng Zhu 's work, and ye can never go wrong with Feng Zhu styled designs ;) keep up the good work!

I agree with the general sentiments of this thread. The designs are awesome. I love the anatomy, the poses, the detail in the face, the texture and shape of their gear.
But there's not enough contrast...you definately need some brighter highlights and some deeper shadows in there to really bring out the detail and solidify the forms. I think if you did that these would be fantastic.
