I'm just wondering if anyone else here at CA has this illnes? I have had this shit about year and a half (Graves' disease), but diagnosed 4 months ago and been eating drugs ever since.
If someone doesn't know what this is, you can read about the disease here----> Hyperthyroidism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperthyroidism)
Would be great to hear about others experiences of this disease: when you got sick, how old are you, have you cured, are you eating drugs for rest of your life, etc.?

yup. runs in my family. my aunt just had radiation treatment again for the second time.
I've got it pretty mildly- I started ona diet that restricts the amount of thyroid blockers I take in. I've only ever had one thyroid storm but I can't gain weight and I have insomnia pretty badly. Also I get irritable at times from it. I was diagnosed five years ago and was supposed to get radiation for it and take pills but I started on the diet first, got a nutritionist to help, and in about six months I'd brought the levels back down to almost normal.
One day it will get bad, I was told that when I hit menopause I'll probably need the pills. Til then I should be ok, if a bit thin and quick...I don't have grave's just hyperthyroid.

I've never heard of this illness.
I read the Wikipedia, and I think I exert many of the symptoms. :S

My ex-roomie had it. She was diagnosed 4 years ago, seemed very stressed and agitated at times but her gland had low structural changes. Last year they found that she's within all the norms so she isn't taking anything anymore. Of course she has to go to check-ups several times a year but it's just to be sure.
She also has genetic predisposition for this sort of disease.

Was diagnosed with this years ago, haven't done anything to change it (yay for no insurance and, until just this week, no cheap health care in my area that I knew of). My doctor diagnosed this when i was 15-ish, and wanted to put me on medication but broke-as-fuck-ism made that unlikely. I should really go get this taken care of.
