Well, we are all artists here I think, but unlike some of you we need a second job before our art picks up and such. So, what is your second job? The one you actually leave the house to do, and has nothing to do with art.
Me, I just gave up my day job when I just got as much for a couple weapons as 2 weeks. I use to be a chef, working in multiple restaurants around this town.

I am a "Web Product Specialist" for a direct mail company that sells high end audio equipment. I do data entry and inventory management for their website and manage their products on Amazon. I also do random tasks that get passed down to me and some proofing and graphic design.

I used to be architect's assistant but now I'm back at the university and there is no time for any bigger job. Believe me or not but it has nothing to do with art.

Its all about retaraunts. Really nice fancy restaraunts where the salt is always on the west side and the pepper is always on the east side in the holder. Where bread must be sliced RIGHT before its served so that it doesnt get stale at all. Where arnold schwezaeger (sp?) comes to eat with his secret service. Where the tips are large, and the managers are anal. All hail the fancy restaraunt!

I'm a full time student now, but I used to over the summers work as an Agronomy Department Assistant.
Which meant I had to get up at 4 in the morning, ride with the other assistants 45 mins to the crops and harvest research plants. Which were lupins. What? Never heard of them? Most people haven't. u__u I also got to separate the stalk and leaf on fescue (hay) and count each one individually. Oh, and I counted lupin beans too. Fun times...

Two at moment; working with a company that is dismantling all the Christmas decorations and associated paraphernalia at a chain of large shopping centres/malls (I also worked helping assemble them before the Xmas season). Got my last shift with them tonight actually.
Also casually working as office assistant/subsecretary in a medical practice. I'm applying for various retail positions at the moment too.

I look down the sites of big guns and missiles, and fire them. At least that's what the gov't would have you believe. In real life I mostly sit around with my thumb up my ass. That or paperwork. And occasionally the guns and missiles. I'm in the US. Army Infantry, but only till April then I'm a free man!

Yes, really.
The thing is, I can't see that as really CREATIVE, hence my trying to grow artistically. I'm also learning to mix songs, compose music, and I've written pretty extensively.
It seems like the tools I invent, to do what I want to do, are successful, but the actual creative stuff I make (and at that, not often) isn't.
I'm hoping I can find a way to change that before I die :)

For the next two months I'll be working as a graphic designer again. Cared for difficult and/or disabled children in my Civilian Service last year. Before that, 5 years of graphic design. Then, for a change, I'll be a student of communications design for at least 3 years. Exciting carrier, isn't it? O_o Oh, and I'm a clown from time to time.... when I'm drunk!

I'm an instructor for the U.S. Army. Funny thing, since I'm a retired Air Force puke, but still. I teach at night, as is pretty much the norm for working adults these days. On the weeks when I'm not teaching, I create training videos, slide presentations, textbooks, and images used in all of the above.
Meh. It's a living. :confident

Former lifeguard, snowboard instructor, cook, cashier, copycenter/printshopper, fine art student, graphic designer.
Current rug designer. Yeah its creative and I draw, paint with gouache, and use photoshop and illustrator for a living at the moment. I like the cultural/art history research involved. It's somewhat related to architecture and interior design, especially in the high end market. I figure its going to be a good background for texture (understanding pattern creation and structure) and environment work!
Don't be discouraged by whatever your current job is. Get everything you can from it.

Part time Graphic Designer after school. Its art related but not nearly as creative as the job I want someday. Most of the time I'm doing formulaic flyers for promotional products, or simple t-shirt designs with a logo on the front and a phrase on the back. I'm glad to have the job I have but I want a ton more out of my future jobs.

I'm 18. The only job I ever had was a waiter and dish cleaner for some pub/resturaunt; I quit after my first shift. I was just a nervous wreck with the whole contact with strangers part. Here I come real world! :|
I manage to get by ok enough through the odd art comission and my weekly Educational Maintinence Allowence as i'm at college. I figured that, if I go to uni next year, I could avoid the real world for another 3 years.
At least I have alot of time to just sit around and draw and paint.

I don't have a job at the moment, but I've noticed when I'm getting interviewed and during the time I have to wait until I get hired, I notice a large drop in my drawing until I get an answer.
I have no money for a tablet or for anything really. I'm just in a slump right now I guess.

Full Time Overnight Stocker at Wal-mart... Works good for losing weight (lost 50-70 lbs in 7 months *not sure on exact weight loss, but it is within that range - I'm currently at 230 lbs* )
Honestly though, looking to go elsewhere, this place is going down the drain atm (mismanagement as usual) :\.

Back before I put my self in school I supported my self as a Bartender/Manager for 9 years, so if you start the restaurant I guess I’m qualified.
I now work in design but still have a side job teaching motorcycle ridding and safety.

Failed miserably at art school. I'm working full-time in retail now for the foreseeable future, preparing myself to pay off my student debt and I buy art-related things with the paychecks. I paint in my spare time. Don't plan on going back to college in any shape or form. I'll probably never be able to make a living from art and I might prefer it that way, because I don't want to sell anything (and there's probably not a market). Improving and personal satisfaction from my art is what concerns me the most.

Healthcare assistant at a burns intensive care unit. It's just nursing for the unqualified, and the ward's often not a such magical place to be, but I feel much less useless since I started this job. I still want to be "proper" artist one day, obviously, but this is definitely the best thing I can be doing till then.

I'm doing a Co-op work term for university right now. I think I found out my job...in Computer Science, I do Desktop Services. Whatever THAT is. I'll really find out Monday. :P
Seems like every job I have sucks all creativity out of me like a greedy infant or something. Anyway, yay for the evenings! In three weeks! ;_;
