So I have been using Photoshop for what seems like forever and this is the first time its done this for no reason. Okay, so you know how if you're using a tablet with photoshop and you have a bunch of stuff running when you "draw/paint" there's a delay? Like, you make a stroke and the screen is slightly behind your timing? Usually that means the file is rather large, the brush is rather large, the file is rather detailed, or you have a bunch of stuff running at the same time. Well today I startup, no problems, and just open up Photoshop, pop in the tablet open up a blank page and stroke....

SLLOOOWWW.... it was quite a delay... like a full second. Anyways, so I do all the checks above... 150 dpi resolution, basic brush on a blank white new file...nothing complex... I check to see if anything else is running or if i have som crazy rogue processes running...nope. I've reinstalled the tablet drivers, I've double checked for spyware, etc. and I've tested other programs, and they all work fine. Heck! Alias, Solidworks, and Cinema 4d all worked great for me! Not even a bit of problems adn those are crazy heavy programs! Also if i just use my mouse the same slow stroke is a result... so could it be a photoshop problem?

So I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem... where randomly Photoshop has slowed down and won't let you paint? Please help, or if you know of someone or some site that does lemme know!

Thanks to everyone in advance, I appreciate the help!

There can be many reasons. Which version are you using? It happens sometimes I know, but I tend to have lots of applications opens for hours and hours on end (i only have 1 gig in ram) so after a while PS starts to struggle. Maybe you should retry restarting your computer?

Yea, every so often I have this problem too, mostly because I do have a few programs running. Most of the time my problems are when I make a stroke, my CPU beeps and then random strokes appear everywhere and it's very annoying, so a few Ctrl + Z's later and I'm ready to go.

Sometimes (and this is going to sounds pretty retarded) if you accidentally add a zero to the canvass size, or have centimeters rather than pixels as the unit of measurement it can fool you...well, it fooled me once or twice anyway

Most of the time I can not even get my photoshop to start, it just stops on Reading Text Global Resources.

Apparently, Adobe already know about this one though... but it's damn frustrating, why don't they just fix the damn thing???

You might have ram problem or even cpu .. if it dident do that before it means that the cpu cooler is loosing rotations (mabby covered with dust), so as i was saying your cooler must be slowing down not cooling the cup properly. That slows the processes in your comp. I recommend cleaning the computer periodically , getting him a good ventilation and at least 1gb Dd-ram is a must have.

How much ram do you have photoshop set to use? Optimal performance comes from the 45-65% range, in general. Also, how much ram do you have?

Make sure you haven't installed anything that hinders processor cycles, too. Constant anti-virus or spyware, etc.

I can second that, yet I think they've been adding more features to it making the programs above PS7 take up more RAM.
I've been experiencing some freezing problems also, when my PScs3 just randomly freezes out of no where for 4 seconds and then comes back to response. maybe that's just my computer.... o_O

I was having ridiculously slow-down trouble with my photoshop, and found a some forum somewhere that suggested closing P-shop and Bridge (and any other adobe apps, I guess). Go to your Preferences and delete the "com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist" file. restart Pshop and/or bridge and see if that solves your problem. You can file it under, "Adobe knows about it, but..."
I do this process at least once a day, and it solved my problem, totally. someone suggested writing a scrip to automate it upon start-up, but damn it, Jim, I'm an artist not a script-er!

Good luck!
