What's uppp everyone. My name's Jasper, here's my progress...

----------------------------------------------

Update:

If you wanna check out my first sketchbook, for improvement's sake, it's here: Old Sketchbook (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=85427)

Otherwise hit up that last page.

----------------------------------------------
Archive from '08:

Alright, my last sketchbook kinda faded off into nothing. I've done alot more stuff since then, so I will post all that here.

My name's Jasper, I'm now 17 years old, and I'm trying figure what I'm going to do in college right now. I'd love to do something involving art, but I probably won't be going to a big art college, I don't have the money for that. I'll try and stay motivated and update at least once every week.

Any comments, crits, etc. is appreciated. I want to get better, so anything you have to add will be helpful.

I'll upload more stuff as I get them scanned.

Some studies:

An unfinished sketch that I thought looked cool

Here the first self portrait I've painted so far, for teen challenge 39. I haven't studied much color yet, so I left it black and white for now.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k192/Pyroclasm00/SPreadytosubmit-1.jpg

I'll have more stuff soon once I get it scanned.

thanks man

Ok, here's some more stuff I just got scanned.
The first four Loomis and Bridgman studies I did at work in my really small
sketchbook

271843
271842

271855
271857

Portrait of a middle eastern man
271844

This one is almost a year old, colored pencil study, about 45 minutes
271841

I was drawing this character the other day, and I realized I need to do some more torso studies, so here they are
271852
271853
271854

I've got a vine charcoal study of my drawing teacher that I'm trying to upload, but every time a resize it it becomes an unreadable file. I'll post that up when I can figure it out.

Nice studies, you're on the right track man!
Wish when i was 17 i could draw this good. Your stuff looks really nice. Love the torso studies.

Keep it up!

Jasper_
January 9th, 2008, 03:35 PM
Carbono - Thanks, those torso studies are definately helping

Marjolein - Thanks for the kind words

Lotet - Thanks man. I don't think I'm better than you are. You've got a different style of artwork...I haven't even really developed my own style yet.

Ok, for some reason, this picture always became unreadable when I resized it. It's a 45 min portrait of my art teacher at school, using vine charcoal, almost a year old. I'll have more stuff soon.

Bridgman is the man! :) I currently have most of his anatomy sketches plastered over my wall, which kinda makes me look a bit strange to my fellow university friends. :P

Good stuff here, keep doing as your doing! :)

Ok so much for updating every week...

I've got a lot of drawings and other traditional stuff that i either dont have scanned yet or my art teacher still has to grade, soo...i'll just throw up some digital stuff that i thought turned out well

If any of these images are too large, let me know and i will try and resize them.

These are just some random sketches, not finished and not really going anywhere

368140
368142
368130

368129

368134

i kinda like this one, did it for a homework assignment for drawing class

372421

372415

372413

372416

This one we had to try and use edges and shapes and stuff to define forms more

372417

I work at an ice cream place...so i drew a banana one night when there was a break in the flow of customers

372420

I'll have some more interesting stuff scanned soon that i should be able to post later tonight

These are real solid, keep up the great work.

You're breaking away from it in those last two paintings, but there's a danger in some of them of becoming too "academic." You've got natural, top-tier drawings, and have the fundamentals down as well as anyone else, but it seems like you're restraining yourself in terms of composition and subject matter.

I'd love to see what you did if you just "went nuts" on a drawing.

You've got some nice work going so far, my friend. You sound like you're in my position. I'm going to a state school for a couple years and then I'm hoping to have enough money and a good enough portfolio to kind of make ends meet so I can transfer to a bigger school. But in the mean time, it's not really where you go, but what you do while you're there. Keep up the good work. Stay inspired.

I really like the self portraits, but don't be afraid to use some more powerful colors and dramatic shadows. Keep it up

Creatinity: thanks man, im trying to stay motivated and practice as much as i can

Frogosis: hey thanks for the reply, for the crit...i will try and just let go on more drawings and see what happens

Sketcheth: yeah man my senior year is getting closer, i've gotta come up with a decision on what im going to do/where im going to go. im a newb with colors so any helpful crits about theory and such will help. thanks for stopping by

Blaz: hah thanks man i like that one too. i forget what brush i used but i think it turned out well.

Alright heres some more stuff scanned today, mostly drawing homework where we had to draw and image of a word, but i can't remember what the word was for most of the pictures??:\

comments and such are welcome, no matter how harsh.

Pulverizer15: i did that tornado picture a while ago out of a national geographic magazine...awesome mags for landscapes and such

Jorge: thanks man im tryin my best

ok so here is my first color life study done in photoshop. fruits and stuff always seem to be great subjects for still lifes, so i went with a tomato that i had in my fridge. i enjoyed this waaay more than doing a picture from a photograph, i kind of like not being able to use the color picker and choosing the colors myself. not quite sure how long i spent on this, but i kinda got bored and didnt want to finish the stem.

Wow long time since any update...seems like a have these weird breaks.

Hoping to get an inuos3 9x12 soon, and get rid of this 4x5 graphire...so pumped for that.

Sorry for a lack a work in this post, just one here that i thought was worth posting. Once I get some more pencil stuff scanned i'll have those up.

A study of a portrait on deviantart.com that I thought looked really nice...trying to practice using textures to incorporate more realism into my work.

Ok I've been real excited as my intuos3 9x12 just came. It's kinda weird though...cuz I also learned that one of my classmates died in an automobile accident the same day...so that kind of killed most of my excitement. The hallways in my school have never been so quiet.

Anyway, here's a study I did testing out my new tablet, from photo ref.

This is a fantastic sketchbook man, I wish I was like this when I was 17, instead of wasting time.

I'm seeing a lot of improvement here and the studies are great.

Ah! nice to find out theres someone else in PA on conceptart.org
I'm sure you've realized from looking at schools here, there's not much haha

lemme give you my experience so far at PCAD being a junior there summed up in one word - mehhhhh....
some of the teachers are good, and im learning quite alot and getting plenty of practice. however although the quality of the school and teachers is ok (for how small it is), there are not very many determined/serious students there in my opinion. not really going to find a whole lot of challenge from other students, which is kind of bad because I've always thought you should want to have a least a few people better than you in your classes so you're challenged.

keep up the great work, I subscribed to your sketchbook

Darlene
October 11th, 2008, 10:51 AM
Wow, you've got some great studies! If I might ask, do you draw from anatomically correct medical thingies, or do you draw from something else for your studies? I'm always wondering if people have references to their studies, 'cause I'd like to do arm studies and leg studies and all that too! :D

Thanks for the comments guys, answered most of your questions in your own sketchbooks.

Thanks LSeraph for the info, really appreciate it.

Just finished this one, trying out a new technique/style. I know the general rule is to start with larger brushes and work your way smaller. This time I started with really small brushes...and didn't really go any bigger. Idk I kinda like the way it turned out, looks a little more sketchy than normal.

489937

LisandroG
October 13th, 2008, 11:48 PM
interesting technique on the last one, really like nice subtle tonal variations. keep experimenting, you might find you can incorporate some of this technique into they way you painted stuff your other stuff.

nice work

Jasper_
October 15th, 2008, 03:45 PM
LSeraph: Thanks man I'm gonna keep playing with that style and see what i can get from it.

Trying to just sketch something again, started refining some of it, never really finished, but I thought it looked decent enough to post. I like how the forms were turning out. Again trying to use small brushes like a pencil for the head/upper body.

492595

My art teacher asked me to do a caricature (spelling?) of obama and mccain for our school newspaper. I've already done McCain as a marker sketch, but I think I might just do it again in photoshop as I liked the results.

I managed to save 6 or 7 steps while I was doing this, so I'll probably post a rough tutorial at some point. Just wanna share my thought process.

492596

Jasper_
October 20th, 2008, 12:57 PM
Ah here's a new sketch. I kinda stopped after finishing the torso and head area, just got bored with it i guess. Also just finished a pencil SP, so I'll get that and some environment work up when scan/finish things.

I love actually being able to draw accurate lines with a larger tablet.

Yeah I realized my eyes are way too big, but I didn't feel like going back and doing all that erasing...

Wow you have some great stuff going on here and I can see the progression you've made. If you aren't already plannin on higher education for art of some sort, then you'll be wasting a LOT of talent, my friend. So please just keep up what you've got going on and use your life experiences in your work. Rock on.

madhatter106
October 26th, 2008, 04:31 AM
The Obama caricature is spot-on. Perfect. Makes me wanna vote for him.

The McCain is okay - I think it's more successful from the eyes up - the nose looks too thick, and though he is very jowly, there's much more variation and shape in the real-life version. He's referred to as "Walnuts" on one of the liberal blogs, in part because his cheeks have that same "walnut" like texture. I think the smile should be wider - when he puts that forced-through-the-rage smile on, it's usually wide, to show those horrible yellowish teeth. I think your second McCain is more successful, though.

Maybe I've been watching too much debate coverage, and reading the Huffington Post too much lately? ;)

The other speedpaints are good. Keep going with the Bridgman and other anatomy studies, it's a good source and something we all should delve into. One recommendation I would make is to make sure your full figures don't look too short - some of the early ones seem like they should be taller. Something I do when I'm doing figures that are standing and not in any extreme forced perspective or foreshortening, is to make a quick thumb/forefinger measure between the top of the head and the groin, and then from the same groin point to the feet...if the measures are close, then I know that I can flesh in the rest of the figure without it looking too tall or too short.

Best of luck and keep drawing and posting. :)

Christoffer
October 26th, 2008, 01:43 PM
I see a strong contrast between your hand drawn sketches and digital paintings. You have a great sense for color and greyscales.
Keep the studies coming and your sketches will look at least as good in no time.

Your avatar SP kicks ass along with your other SPs. The colors in post #46 are awesome.
You should definitely finish it some day. Sorry about your classmate btw.

iphigen: Haha, thank you. I'm really glad to hear that you got a laugh out of them.

WickedEdges: Thanks. I'm definately trying to go to art school somewhere, just not sure where yet. I'm trying to improve as much as I can nowadays.

madhatter106: Thanks for the crits man. Yeah I know what you mean about McCain, I don't think I studied his features enough. Spent about half the time on him than with Obama. Newspaper deadline was approaching. And I'll definately keep that in mind about my figures.

Christoffer: Thank you, I think I'm spending too much time doing digital stuff and not enough with traditional. Thanks for the sympathy as well.

Ok, here is another self-portrait. Trying to make this one look more sketchy. Since I missed international self-portrait day due to visiting RISD, I did one anyway. This one from life, and I'm really pleased with tthe way my colors turned out.

Jasper_
November 7th, 2008, 06:51 PM
Flaskpost : THanks man, I see what you mean about the planes. I had a relatively soft light, and I guess I was trying to come up with a lighting scheme of my own at the same time and neglected the use of planes.

I've noticed now we have an area to input copyright info when uploading images? Is this due to that Orphan Works Bill or whatever? I haven't been following it too much.

Alright here's more digital stuff, no reference on anything except the self-portrait, from a mirror.

This one is really the first time I just went with something and had no clue what i was doing at the beginning. Hence composition and such may be off. All of these are unfinished, and I don't know if I will continue any of them, but I'm happy with where they're at now.

DeeLock: Hey thanks, that was a new approach for me, I'm glad it turned out well.

Mr. Juicy: Thanks dude. Well I'm almost 18 now, so don't be too jealous.

OK, nother self-portrait, a character design of Winston from the novel 1984 (Meh, this could be better, any advice is good), and some random doodle that I liked and finished up a bit more(Might still work on it later, but I'm ok with where its at).

sebastian_H Thanks a lot man. You just gotta work your ass off. Well
right now this is still my hobby, but I'm hopefully going to make work out of it
when I'm out of college.

Ok heres a new one that I think turned out well, finally got around to finishing it.
This first one is the initial color palette I started with, looking for shapes, the
second image is the finished piece. Crits are highly encouraged.

Whoo the last coupla paintings have been sick! the portrait at the top of the page is awesome too...the last two compared with that one at the top have very different styles of brushstrokes, but they both work really well. You've got a command of it for sure...I know you might be limited on time, but keep on pushing/rendering them (especially the last one).

Last one is raw. One suggestion would be to put some type of structure in the foreground. Maybe a buoy on the foggy water?

Hi, i'm new to these forums. I was looking at, i think the mica thread (?), and clicked a link here to your sketchbook.

First off, your digital paintings are AMAZING. holy crap. I wish i could digitally paint. I've always wanted to try it, but i'm too poor to afford a wacom tablet. :(
What is your process? Do you first block in shapes and then proceed to go up in value and hue and block in smaller areas until you start detailing?
In your anatomy studies, what books do you use?
Did you use any books to learn color theory? Because your sense of colors are great. I wish i could paint skin like that irl...

Keep it up! If i knew how to subscribe, i'd subscribe to this too.

Haha wow I've never recieved so many comments after a single update.

hunchbackmagee: Thanks for looking, its all photoshop. Could never get things going smoothly with Painter.

Bagg: Hey thanks man I'm going to try and produce more like it

soulburn3d: THank you, I was trying to have it give off an ominous vibe thing.

Dan Valkar: Thanks dude, been working on my brush strokes.

Ricardo Robles: Thank you, thats good to hear.

monsi: Thanks! I will

kidult: Thank you

clochette: Thanks, and thanks for the crit. I was just trying to keep the edges sharp around the creatures face area, to attract a focal point i think, and leave the rest a little undefined. Maybe that didnt work as well as I'd liked, so thanks for the observation.

DStrax: Thank you, I'll try and spend a little more time on my work.

oden: Thanks i've been trying a lot of new things with brushes and such. Sometimes I guess I just get bored with a peice and leave it a little unfinished, i gotta work on that it seems.

Bushido: No problem. Thanks, I'll do some more experimentation with those brushes.

Omerta: Thanks

Lakka: Thanks man

Vulgar: Hey thanks for the crit. I agree completely, I was experimenting with a shoddy looking ship in the foreground, but I felt like it was beyond my skill level. I gotta break outta that fear.

Monochromalice: Thanks a lot man. Yeah those tablets are damn expensive, I worked my ass off serving angry people ice cream all summer for that. Process? well its generally a bit different every time. I just wing it mostly. I throw down some colors until I get a few that seem to work well, and I try to quickly define some shapes. Once I get an idea of what I want, I will pick stronger values and lay down the lighting right away, then I'll begin adding more variation to the colors and definition to the elements i've made my mind up about. I use many books for my anatomy studies, bridgman, hogarth, vilppu, loomis, peck, and sheppard all have written some excellent anatomy books that I study from. Colo Theory? Heh, I'll admit i dont really know much about it. I just try to look for colors that are visually appealing I guess. Lots of life studies help with color, i think.

I'll try and reply to each of your sketchbooks in the coming days as well.
Here are two life paintings that I've finished recently, I trying to do a lot of work that would look good in my portfolio for art school, and I wanted to finish these for National Portfolio Day on Sunday. The second one is a bit unfinished, but I've done most of the grunt work.

sebastian_H: Hah, yeah sorry I've been pretty busy with school and college applications and such. I've got quite a bit more traditional stuff that I will post once I get around to scanning it.

kopalipse: Hey thanks. You just gotta keep practicing and doing studies. I gave up video games for a while and just focused on my art, which I think I benefited from in more than a few ways. The first few pages of this thread, I used a Graphire4 4x5, but now I have an Intuos3 9x12. Both of them are wonderful pieces of equipment.

Goodie! Nice new updates. Your traditional stuff is catching up.
Your digitals all look nice as usual. The worm-like creature with the bird is cool.
Looks like there's an epic showdown about to happen dispite the difference in size. :P
Would've liked for you to use bigger strokes on it's body though.
To me it kind of looks like it's been put together with with small pieces, almost like a clay model.
The same goes for your grey scales, but there it looks kind of cool, hehe.

Jasper_
February 15th, 2009, 11:52 AM
Christoffer: Thanks for the observations man. I'm glad you mentioned the 'epic showdown' between the bird and monster thing, that's exactly what I wanted to portray by keeping the bird in a higher position, making the bird seem like an adversary instead of prey.

Hari Gopinathan: Thanks man, yes they're all self-portraits.

Ok this is just a 10 min sketch i did to warm up before continuing on something bigger and more important. Just to get my hand back into the feel of the tablet and blending things. I think it turned out well enough to post.

593831

Here's a self-portrait of myself, kinda exaggerated a few things to get a caricature feel.

Edit: Colors are not looking the way the should after I upload it, so I'm trying to fix it.

Yeah things are looking terribly bland and desaturated, if anyone has had this problem before, feel free to chime in.

Edit2: Ok I guess it had something to do with the color profile.

I haven't had much time to just sit down and relax and draw for a while, trying to make a lot of college deadlines, and all that stuff just takes so much time. I can't wait until I'm finished with all of it. Here's one last piece I managed to do in my spare time, and also include in a few last minute portfolios.

Here's my CHOW entry that didn't make it cuz I forgot to link back to my WIPS!! A little disappointed about that, but whatever, now I'll never forget again.

The deadline approached pretty quickly, and I ran out of time to finish coloring it. I actually don't know how to begin color a grayscale image, so this was a learning experience. Let me know what you think, I guess I just used 'color' layers. Mayber there is a more effective way.

Was that chow suppose to be the female sith lord? Too bad about the wips. I did that very same mistake on my first chow. haha! Anyway - there are some issues with her proportions, unless she's another species. :P I would've put more meat on her limbs, shortened her neck a bit, maybe increased the size of her head and finally adjusted her waist. It seems her rib cage is too long. The design is very nice though. Hehe. Cheers.

Alright, It's been a really long time since my last update. I just got lazy with scanning and all that stuff. I've still been active throughout the forums however. Now that this whole college search business is over, and I'm finally done with high school, I now have a free summer ahead of me to make some nasty artwork.

I've decided to go to Rochester Institute of Technology to study illustration next year, so I'm pretty pumped for that. Heres a rather large update (for me, anyway) before I head off for the beach tonight. Gonna be there for a week, hopefully I'll be able to update again soon after I get back.

Chriis.zed – Thanks!

Christoffer – Thanks man. Yeah her proportions are really off…I just got lazy and decided to hide behind the poor excuse that it’s a star wars character, so proportions could be whatever.

Jatherip – Thank you!

Dekal – Thanks man your stuff is pretty kick ass too.

Psantha – Wow thanks I appreciate that.

Omerta – Thanks!

AvisNocturna – Thank you, I’ve been trying to put a stronger emphasis on my brush strokes lately.

Craz – Thanks!

LisandroG – Yeah I’m in PA. I’ve decided to go up north to Rochester
Institute of Technology and study illustration there. And I checked out your blog, it looks like you’ve made some great progress as well. Thanks for stopping by

Strela – Haha thanks, It’s funny, I feel like I need to work on speedpaintings and quickening my pace up a bit.

Sketcheth – Thanks man, I’m trying to get into photoshop’s brush system and try to work out something that fits my style.

Ok so I just got my laptop for school, and I've done a self portrait to test it out. It took a little while to get into the groove of using a system for painting, but I like the way it turned out. I turned up the contrast a bit, cuz I think the laptop screen kinda makes things look a little different than they are. Let me know if these images seem too dark or light or contrasty or whatever.

I also painted a view from my porch during/right after it rained. I didn't want to get alll distracted with texture brushes and everything so kept it simple with one brush and a blender.

That's what's been taking most of my time lately, and I won't be able to post artwork from it yet :( But I've got some other WIPs and stuff that have faded off into the dust, the dragon piece is the only one I actually finished. I think your more recent work looks great, you have a great handle on working digitally. I'd say do more life studies and traditional work, though you'll likely be doing quite alot of since you're starting art school. My experience at art school so far has been primarily self-driven, so remember that you gotta stay motivated and always be working on your own. Thats my advice anyways.

Okaaay so it's been a really long time since my last update, but I'm still making art. Most of what I'm doing now is schoolwork that is too big to be scanned or freelance work which I can't post yet. I'm going to try and find more time to do some personal paintings or studies or sommething to give me a break from work and allow myself to explore.

I won't bother getting to replies this time since I doubt anyone whose commented here is going to check back after however many months it took me to post again.

I've also tried recording myself doing a speedpainting. The video is kinda eh, but I like the end result, so just check it out and let me know what you think. Mannn I miss being on these boards.

OmertA: Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video and the robot man, I'm gonna try and keep going with that style to see where it goes.

Here's some more stuff. I brought my laptop and tablet today to an open figure drawing session at my school. I wanted to try digital painting the figure from life, and it was really awesome. The poses are about 15-20 mins each.

Awesome stuff man, that last update is great. I like on the last guy how loose and quickly it looks like it was done, it almost gives him a sense of movement. I really can't critique anything, it's killer stuff all around. Thx for posting.

Pigeonkill THanks man!

Ok here's some sketches from this summer when I went to the beach. Some dumb girls I was with kept feeding the seagulls so there were a million of them flocking around us. I figured it be a good time to break out the sketchbook. The other one is a house drawn from the beach, and a tree from in front of my house. Also a quick still life from last night before my roommates wanted to turn out the lights to sleep. I may finish it more tonight.

CUKIERass Thanks dude

sketcheth Definitely agree about the values. Since those figures were over the summer, I feel like my values have improved a bit since that is a huge focus at college now. I'll post those when I get chance, they're all 18x24 so it's difficult to move them back to my dorm.

heix33 Sure thing man I'll take a look

Nettle_Mountain Thank you I will

Ok here are some more figures. These are a few from an open figure drawing sesh, done in my sketchbook with pencil. Haven't drawn that small and in pencil in months, it really feels good to get back to it and take a break from charcoal/conte/pastels for a bit. Hopefully I'll find some freetime soon to wip up some digital stuff and post that, I've longing to start doing studies again on my tablet. Lemme hear yo comments!!

No scanner in my dorm so I did my best with a camera

Janos Hey thanks, I'll make sure to keep an eye on those planes on the next figure drawing session.

Here's a warmup sketch that I decided to take a little further. I guess I got bored and started putting in random blocks at the bottom, I didn't know what to do with the feet legs. No ref for this one.

The colours in the selfportrait are exellent. I dont think teh outline adds anything though, it detracts form the awesome blue eyes. I say change it to a more similar colour like the background.
Also the digi sketch a few posts up looks real good. The texture and the composition look fine. Lol at trying to hide the feet. I haevn't even started studying them... feet are so hard.

MacTire I see what your saying, maybe It's because most of the live models we've had this year have been women. Thanks for the crit!

Janos Thanks for the crit! In this case I actually think it helps with the silhouette, it wasn't reading well beforehand. I was contemplating what to do with the background for a while, could never settle on anything solid though.

Johann de Venecia Thank you, yes all of them were done with a live model

Here is some figurative stuff from school this year. I've recently lost a large body of what I consider my best and most recent figure work, as it went missing when I handed it in for a grade at the end of the quarter. Hours and hours of figure drawing...very annoyed and dissipointed that it happened. I feel reluctant to blame it on my teacher, for a lack of organization, but whatever, can't get too attached to your artwork.

Ok here is a full body, life sized self portrait done with colored pencils and pastels for my drawing class. Half was supposed to be anatomy and half skin tone. This was such a bitch to do, but I think it turned out ok, for my limited experience with traditional media.

I also have an illustration I did for my 2d design class, with the thumbnail sketches and final sketch included. No ref. I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out, and really enjoyed drawing on a tablet. But feel free to tear it apart.

Hey, this might be asking way too much, but any chance you can stop by my sketchbook and give a word on how you approached learning your anatomy? And any other comments you might have.. I am 17 and I really want to get better and your work really inspired me.

Nice stuff man. I'm not particularly fond of the width of the hips in your anotomy drawing and i would re work the left hand to give it more of a natural curvature (allow the pinky to recede behind the ring finger) but good use of color and all the anotomy seems to be in the right place and doing the right thing.(ie. no oddly flexed muscles) good work keep it up and always feel free to comment on my stuff.

Jasper_

lolbbq Thanks dude I've been trying to push my colors a lot lately!

MattGamer Thanks man I've been getting some great feedback on that one!

Ok here's another self portrait, playing with some textures and colors and whatnot.

Also jumped headfirst into an enviro painting, don't usually do these. Over spring break I took my dog for a walk to brought my camera, which I really want to do more often. Took a few cool pictures before my dog hurt her leg and I had to help her back home. I used textures and samples from those photos to help make this, as well as some crazy brushes.

There are also a few of the pictures that I took and grabbed the textures from. Mind you, I'm not a photographer nor really into photography, just shooting pics for reference and such. Definately crits are appreciated on the enviro, I really want to get good at them!!

MattGamer
March 22nd, 2010, 08:22 PM
i like the sp and how you popped the nose out there with warm colors. ;] as for the enviro, since the background is pretty warm, you're going to have to cool it down to give the picture some depth. as we all know, the farther things are away, the cooler they are. it's doable just play with it and see what you can do just playing with the warms in the background. see if you can push it further back and give us a sense of thick environment. ;]

likin that sp a lot more. remember there's blue in the area where your beard and mustache grow. ;] even tiny hints of it. but i like the way you pushed and pulled the values with colors. good work. ;]

Jasper_
March 29th, 2010, 08:56 PM
MattGamer Thanks man I know exactly what your saying. My beard is actually pretty light so I tried a bit of blue at first, and it made my beard appear stronger than it actually is. I tried to suggest it using a greyish tone, hoping that the warmer colors surrounding it would cool it down. Thanks for the crit man!

Ok here is the last set of images for my 2d design diptych project. Incorporated some photo textures of my own to help out. Normally I would have liked to have painted everything by hand, but the deadline wouldn't allow it. Hope you like it, the theme here is 'heritage'.
