I previously bought a domain but I might have to cancel it. Since Geocities uses free hosting, I was wondering if any of you use it to display your personal art website. I'm not really familiar with their layout options etc.

still havent got the thing completely up though..

ahem...www.colvinart.net

You basically design the whole thing yourself...there isn't canned code, which is how i like it.

Geocities is like the poster child of cheap badly made sites (I used to have a site there...I have to admit, but for hobbying purposes.) It looks very unprofessional. Not sure why you would have to cancel your hosting. You could use a service like wordpress, which is free and looks more pro than geocities, you can even pay a small fee to have it forwarded to your own domain. You can also have small pro hosting for around 30$ a year.

I know people:D

nah... I bought the domain a year ago and parked it at the most economical place I could find. It's in a bundle deal with my internet access. (Geocities was bought by yahoo a while back, who was bought by sbc, who was bought by at&t...whew!)
It was that, or fortunecity.com, wherein I have a REAAAALLLY old site from 1999. It's VERY stinky at this point. I should take it down, but I forgot the access code.

I would suggest shopping around if you don't like geocities. The only way it's un-professional is if you design it to look that way, IMO.
