"shit and boring do something different"
Hey, don't be so hard on yourself.
Don't get me wrong its a great quality to be self critical and thoughts like that will ultimately force you to study different subject matters and expand your reservoir, but I really think it would be beneficial if you ground yourself more within the fundamentals, things like proportions, origins and insertions, or how muscles stretch and compress and then combine that knowledge with what you've already ascertained.

Really nice work. I really like the way the tonal work conveys the form. It is almost sculptural and it is very expressive. Reminds me of the drawings of Henry Moore.

You've got some great stuff. I just browsed the whole book. If I had any money I would pay to own something you made. I don't dig the content of the more grotesque stuff so much, but I appreciate your style in all your work. I'm loving the hairy lines, the clean lines, contour line shading, hatching and contrast/desaturation. You also use some sweet shapes that you don't see very often, like in the armor and exo-skeletal creatures. Consider my mind blown. I hope you don't mind if I try to incorporate some of the concepts behind the process of making your work into my own.

October 31st, 2008, 07:06 PM
Vorace - cheers man! killer stuff in your book!
jedininjaman - thanks man! the frog is just ink and the fish are ink with a little acrylic for the orange, adjust the contrast after the scan as it can take some of darks away. cheers!
Quinn Simoes - cheers Quinn! always cool to see you drop in

That is awesome it has to be the coolest feeling looking at one of these finished and holding it in your hand, rather than a file on the computer.
Thats why I work traditional.

your rendering is sick! SO SICK!
I wonder though
Your line drawings are very loose and your renders very tight, I am finding that rendering and just line drawing are countering each other for me. Line drawing i use my arm/shoulder while rendering it has to be my wrist and i find it diffuclt to have to keep switching it sucks. You seem to have it very easy though lol :P
I gotta say though you have one heck of an imagination
keep at it bro!

lilnebo - Cheers :) really like to warm up with really quick long lines (usually graffiti, or silly chars) and tighten up and just use the wrist for rendering but I think a lot of the people who get the best results use their arm for rendering also, want to try more of that. thanks a lot mate!

Just checking out the more recent stuff; got some incredible stuff. There's alot of abstract kind of stuff, but I love how you're able to get so much form into them. I love the little frog. And your latest post goes to show how much you can get across with pretty controlled/minimal strokes.

hey man i really like this portrait at the top of the page, you did a great job
displaying emotion through the subtle definition of the features. You've got an
awesome unique, dark style in your work. I think my favorite may be in
post 291, that guy with the tie...I just think its really cool. It's difficult trying
to give any kind of constructive criticism here, as it seems like you've found
a groove. good going man keep itup.

Cool, should be fun studying there. I am gonna be going there for graphic design, but I want to do drawing as a hobby so I was wondering if there are like afterschool classes for figure drawing?
Also, cool update. I dunno how you manage to make things look so messy yet organised, and even 3-dimensional. The top looks awesome.

Uuuuh, WOW, man! I feel so remorseful that i overlooked you, damn.
I preferably don´t look at all of your sketches, doodles and pictures, otherwise I´d be more ashamened of myself and would cry in a small, dark corner of my room.
Your sketches are sometimes so creepy and...alien, sometimes they don´t tell a story and are so fascinating, nevertheless. If you tried to show your thougths and feelings through this creations, wow, you made it. Actually, it has to be that! Your works are formless and at the same time...so shaping...
Dude, I´m overwhelmed!

I really like love the feel in work. The texture, the contrast, the atmosphere. It's so full of grunge and grit. Not only that but it carries depth while acknowledging the surface. I mean, just, WOW!
It really is inspiring to see your work.
Who knows, maybe someday I'll pick up using your style, because it's that awesome!

Lovely and eerie quality to your sketches. Your creatures remind me of the illustrations in this book of ghost stories that I read when I was a kid, especially the ones with the white eyes, which are creepy but in a good way.

As I've said before, I love your inks. I'm a bit curious though. What tools are you using?

wow mate. It's great how your photos look so much like ya drawings. And that last one is killer. I kinda wouldn't mind seeing it on some cleaner smoother paper, so the background contrasted a bit more with the various ink techniques you use. Maybe incorporate some really sharp graphic elements? I dunno, think I'm just throwing ideas at ya. Nonetheless, top stuff.
