About me, I’m 21 and have just taken up art seriously about a year ago. I hope to go to an art college eventually, in the next year or two.

I’m using this Sketchbook to get motivated, document my improvement, and to get critiqued by people who live and breath art and know what they’re talking about:yayca:. So please, don't hold back, I want help:bashful:.

I’ll start by posting the art that I’ve done this past year.

As you will soon see, I am in dire need of going back to the “basics” of art. I know that I need to work on figure drawing, proportions, light direction, and perspective just to name a few.

Here are the human portraits that I’ve done; these are all in watercolor and all except the second are from photo references.

Next a batch of pet portraits that I whipped up because my family wouldn't take no for an answer. Again all from reference photos and in watercolor except for the one in pencil:wink:.

Funny enough, I have some of the exact same new year's resolutions. All of the same, in fact. Giving it one year of earnest effort, and if it hasn't killed me by the end of it, it was meant to be. I wish you luck! At least you're pulling your socks up a couple years earlier than me. My advice? Same as anybody else here would give. Draw, a lot, and don't quit because you think you aren't getting anywhere.

There's the sketches. Good stuff. Anything more from imagination? I especially dig the baby in the heart with the blue mohawk. Very stylish! Can't wait to see some more sketches and pencil work!

I've just started practicing figure drawing. All of these figures are drawn from Posemaniacs.com.

These are all around 5 minutes give or take.

I've got more stuff to post:

First are some designs I made when making a baby shower invitation for my sister. The baby in question, my niece, is the baby in the watercolors above, she's a cute one, he he:teeth:.

Dont Panic: Your work looks really good. If I could suggest anything it would be to work on your human anatomy more. There is so much that goes in to anatomy and of course you could always cheat your way around that by using projectors and light tables, but wouldn't feel good to do it all yourself? I know I am on the anatomy boat.
I really feel you on wanting and strongly desiring making a career in the arts. I have been through most of the major career paths of the arts like the world of murals, some automotive airbrush work, tattooing, graphic design.....I still don't know which way I exactly wanting to go and I'd rather not just be another teacher. All in time I guess. My goal is just to keep putting in a lot of work. We'll all get there when it's our time.
great work on the real though,

Don't Panic-...just curious...was your username inspired by "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"?

You got a pretty good style and use of watercolors I think. Those dog watercolor paintings you did are just fantastic. Just what Lege1 said though, you gotta hit those anatomy studies hard. keep working at it, I think you got a lot of good things happening here.

Trashy: Thanks for stopping by, you're right about the anatomy studies. At the moment I'm working on them but I have a lot of work ahead of me especially if I want to get into an art college.

I wish I had gotten serious about art younger, but better late then never:[ .

and, you're right about my name, it is inspired by "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy," funniest series of books ever written, I love it:^^: .

Here are some more figure studies from posemaniacs. The larger poses are a little less then five minutes and the small are around 1 minute and done by looking at my larger sketches.

I got a wacom for my birthday and here is my first digital painting (It looks like she just had her lips plumped and her clothes look painted on but other then that it turned out better then I expected) I made sure to pay attention to anatomical correctness and used one of my posemaniacs sketches as reference. It took me about two and a half days to finish:

I like your paints a lot. Like everyone says, work on anatomy[books, videos etc]. Laying down a structure first helped me, so it might help you. Your determination is really inspiring.
