Hello,

I'm fairly new to drawing. I'm learning by practicing daily.

Got a question here for the experienced.

I find that I habitually close my left eye while drawing. It's completely unconscious. Is this a common habit? Is it a bad habit?

I believe both eyes are open while studing my model.

hehe. that's kinda wierd. I close one eye often if I'm drawing something that's extremely forshortened or if it's something way behind something else because it looks different with each eye so it can mess with your proportions. that's only while looking up though, not while drawing. I wonder if it has to do with your right brain taking over...

well closing one eye stops you being able to sense perspective properly. I don't know whether or not this matters when looking at your page. probably doesn't, as long as you don't look at the model one eye'd... :p

I squint all the time with both eyes so that I don't get caught up in the details. Squinting helps me to see things as graphic shapes and separate the light from dark values. I haven't tried squinting with one eye but I'd probably look like Popeye.
