For X-mas this year im going to go ahead and get one of this neato Wacoms and Painter (already have photoshop). I would really like to join in this community, even though my talents are non-existant to say the least. I learn so much every day though, and i hope i can get some tips from the best. First question, whats a good size tablet to get with the wacom?

I have a 9 x 12 and that works really well and isn't too huge for my desk. I use a 6 x 8 one in my graphic design classes and it is definitely good. If you have the extra 100 bucks then definitely go for the 9 x 12 but if you need to save cash then the 6 x 8 is still definitely usable you just won't get "as" precise a stroke. That's awesome you are going to get one!!!! Merry Christmas!!!

If you are a student or an employee of any kind of educational institution you can get a wacom for a discounted price at www.journeyed.com . They lop off a good deal of the price...just another option.

Sorry, could someone explain to me is that the 6x9 and 9x12 are better or worse because of size or are there other factors to consider? I mean does it just depend on what the person using it prefers in terms of size or does the 9x12 really make that much of a difference in the ability to do techniques? Plenty of varying responses would be great cos Im thinking of getting one too...

Someone said they were going to get a tablet that wasn't wacom? I've used lesser brands before and you can definately tell the difference. Hold out for an Intuos2 if you can! It's worth it.

I've always been with the thought that the best size of you tablet is one that most closely matches the size of your monitor. As it is right now I've got the 6x9 and a massive monitor. So when I flick my wrist to make a small arc, that small arc translates into a massive curve on the screen. ..something to think about. ~You can lock the ratio to one corner of your screen.. but that kind of sucks.

Then there are some people who dispise the larger size because its encumbersome to hold and rarely fits in your workspace.

Its all personal preference actually. See if you can find a local dealership where you can actually try out the different models in the store.

Thanks grooveholmes...I hadnt thought about the tablet/monitor ratio before..it all makes sense. I have used a friends intuos (6x9) before and they are great so ill definitely save my money for that...

Cheers

Yes!

Back in school we were supplied the regular Intuos. The one I bought for myself was the Intuos2. I had no idea the jump in quality between the two!

I've got a question about 9x12 Wacoms

As it was my birthday yesterday I was given some money for this Wacom stuff. So now I have to choose which one to buy. I noticed there are two types of A4s DTP and CAD. CAD is provided with Intuos Cursor, DTF - with Intuos Pen...

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT's ALL ABOUT :D:o

Could anyone enlighten me about that coz I don't trust those shop assistants ;)
