Flavor of PS?

I started doodeling with PS elements, now I have a copy of CS3 but am curious what other flavors people are using, and if one id better then others at painting. I am pretty new to digital art alltogether, so is there another version I should look into?
What are some of the pros and cons to the various versions.

CS3 is the newest version, there's no reason not to use it if your system can handle it.

Ah I see well i can handle it I guess, it's kinda slugish at times but it works, I don't think i am using enough of it to get to bad though. I am just geting started and all. I am pretty much using the standard brushes, and have not figured out how to do that much stuff yet. But good to know that CS3 is up to speed and can do whatever.
