Website Question: About Slideshows on Artists' Pages

What I'm referring to is a phenomenon which occurs when clicking on the thumbnails on the pages of featured artists (shown at the top of each page). The result is said clicker's ability to fully view each piece of art, shown as Image X/X. Said clicker can then close the image by clicking the obvious "Close" button at the bottom right.

Obviously, I'm not having a problem viewing images. I was just wondering if anyone knew more about this effect (whether it's in reproducing it, or even the proper name for the effect so I can google it).
