***This thread has been repurposed as a WIP thread.***

OK, finally settled on the final scale and such. Spent a few hours tonight cleaning up the sketch, blocking in some parts and starting to work on the main body.

This is really my first true color painting...it's an interesting experience. And I know the colors are a little too warm right now..I'll tone them down later.

Here's the original concept sketches:
First Concept (http://forestzachman.com/forum_images/art/perspective-scale-test.jpg)
Final Concept (http://forestzachman.com/forum_images/art/perspective-scale-test3.jpg)

I aplogize for the small size and low quality...I compressed it pretty low in defference to modemers...as I get some more work done on it I'll probably post a higher res image.

Oh, and I should probably make the disclaimer that I obviously didn't paint the background...it's a photo plate for a project on Sijun.

Well I don't know too much about the perspective, but the size seems ok. I'd edge towards making it a touch bigger maybe. That's just my 2 cents though, the mech is looking pretty good right now.

Looks good!

I'm sure you could learn a lot from studying Eric Gooch's work (http://www.cybergooch.com/pages/whats_new.htm) -- He's doing this exact sort of imagery. I just found this guy, and his work is flabergastingly good... So, keep that in mind - might take a bit of ego armour.
----------------------------------------------------------
[EDIT:Something I didn't initially realize about his images, (because I saw lower res. pics than these) is that they're 3D CG... So, they're not quite as sick as I thought. I know you'll like 'em, though.]

The shoulders are a bit sketchy, and don't have much crisp definition. I would suggest keeping the mech surfaces as smooth and uniform as possible, and putting in any weathering touches after the form is found. Most of your edge definition should be coming from the contrast between planes, I think.

Something so cool about robots in snow, in't there?:D

Thanks for the comments William! I'll definately check that link out.

And I totally agree with your assessment of how to handle the texturing. I saw a finished work of someone else on this same subject and realized where I had gone wrong. I guess part of my problem is that I'm still new to colors, and I see all these people talking about "flesh isn't flesh, white isn't white," etc... so I was trying to play a bit more with colors to be more dynamic.

So I think I need to go back and redo a lot of it. It's a learning experience! :D
