Working under the aegis of Max Ink Cafe, I create several matte paintings including an opening shot for the cinematics in 3DO's Dragon Rage for the PlayStation2. Although I was happy with the tower and painted foreground, my ocean BG was dropped in favor of a DV shot of the sun setting over the water (Venice Beach CA) in order to simplify its animation during the cameras push in. I was not happy with the result and in the end decided to create a new version for my reel. Below are frames from both the project in which the tower element was modeled in 3D studio Max, and my new version in which the scene was rebuilt and new elements added using Maya and composited in Digital Fusion. Lastly there is a Windows Media clip of my final ver. I have never played the game itself.

Some others I worked with.....
Duane Stinnett, CG Supervisor and tower concept

Thanks all for the look. Mayas default renderer may leave alot to be desired, but it is fairly fast. In the end, I tend to tweak the frame quite a bit in the composite... in this case DF. Mental Ray has yet to yield me good results when called upon. And its GL render time is simply not practical. As for the stones.... Its amazing what one can do with bump and displacement maps. They are to 3D what milk is to cereal. Essential. Things appear very dry without um.
