Hi gang! I've been wanting to post here for years because this group has the distinction of being a very tough crowd, which is always what I'm looking for. You only get better by hearing the truth.

Anyway, I've done comics for many years and I'm now making a transition to film design. I'm art directing a film here in Louisiana and I would love to get some opinions on the stuff I'm doing.

For your consideration:

Oh very nice!

I love the angle of the picture.

Welcome to the forums!

Nice piece. It feels abit to "laid back" with abit too much action to be a standalone illustration, but as a part of a comic it's more than just a good work.

.cheers

Thanks friend! I'm curious what you mean by "laid back" with too much action. Those seem a bit contradictory. Is is not proper to show action in a production painting? Please, could you be more specific? Thanks a ton!

Oh yeah, so far it's great! It's like directing the film without having to do all the work. :) Someday I'd like to sit in the captain's seat, but we'll see how it goes. Thanks bud!

i think there's a problem with the perspective [ if that is a desk on which is the green neon lamp]..or maybe it's a humongous desk :D hehe, i like the organic structure of the "terrible thing that's gonna do something terrible to the terrified woman" aand i don't think it's a good solution that texture and paintings on the wall, they seem to float, put a little shadow there. keep up the good work

Well, I did the desk and empty room in 3d with a pretty wide lens, but the guy in the chair and door and everything else was by hand, so it's no doubt filled with inconsistency. That texture is a bit much. This is really my first effort at putting in source textures instead of just using them as "grit", so I haven't quite got the hang of it. Thanks for the feedback! I'll try some more shadow work.

Thanks bud!

The caption that immediately came to mind was...

"Fired? Oh no!"

What is happenning on the right side of the picture is fantastic - this nice rendered monster and the table give us the felling of his nastys intensions in oposite to the left side of the picture which is painted and rendered in very sketch way. Try to work on this side a bit more - esspecially on the wall. Not every time the texture give us everything we want.

I like it, is the theme Lovecraft? it certainly looks as if an Academic type has bitten off more than he can chew.

Reeally nice contrast of colours/lighting. I like the style, too.
