I'm planning on buying a Wacom, but I'm left handed and was wondering if I need to take this into consideration when buying one.
I don't know about other lefties, but I hold my pencil almost upside-down when I draw, as opposed to righties who point it upwards.

Tips, anyone?

Likely all you will need to worry about is the location of the buttons and touchstrips. For this reason, avoid the intuos 3 A6 as it only bears buttons and touchstrips on the right hand side. It is possible to map the tablet upside down so as to locate the buttons on the lower right in normal use, however it is probably a bit awkward. Larger models have buttons on both sides, and the button layout is mirrored between sides.

Anyhow, if you can draw on a piece of paper, you can draw on a tablet. If you point the pen up (i.e. away from yourself) the thumb switches will be operated by your thumb, and if you point it down said switches are comfortably under ones' index finger.

I am left handed and I point the pen upwards when I draw. I doubt the hand a pen is held in has any bearing on the manner in which it is held, unless the pen itself has some kind of chirality. The standard wacom pen is bilaterally symmetrical lengthwise.

Hope this is useful.

Thanks, that helped.

So if there are buttons on the top of the wacom that get in the way I can map it so that I can just place the wacom upside-down so the buttons stay clear of my hand? Hope that made sense. Thanks again.

being a lefty has never been a problem for me, tablet wise. just for the record.

There were the two reviews I gave for the wacom models. The 4x5 I didn't go into as much depth because I'd be replicating a majority of my review on the 6x8 (though they defaulted it to the widescreen)

In other words, I should not go for the intuos 3?

I'm sorry, but did you read the responses provided to you?

Oh sorry. I just read the top one, since I thought they said basically the same.

Thanks, you pretty muched solved all my problems.

Like Dr. Pepper.

But, if I understood it right, there will be some problems with the curving of the left hand? But is it really a biggie?

I use the Wacom Bamboo: http://www.pclaunches.com/entry_images/0507/15/wacom_bamboo.jpg

And there aren't any problems with it being lefty...I too hold my pencil very strange lol.

im a lefty and i have an intuos 3 and there is an option for lefties that lets you hold the tablet upside down, and also I dont now if you literally hold the tablet but I do and the buttons being on the lower right are really convenient. The only problem I've noticed is the zoom bar still works as though you have it the other way, so to zoom in you have to drag your finger down rather than up, but thats minor and it just takes a little while to get used to.

i happen to have that a6 the first poster mentioned and i have to say that to me its really inconvenient to turn it upside down.because in that position there isnt much space to rest your wrist. so i just disabled the touchstrip entirely. if possible go for a bigger size
