It's 7 a.m this Monday December 10th, 2007 morning and I believe it's time to take art to another level. I am done with school and can now focus on increasing my skill set but most importantly can focus on blossoming ideas that are waiting to bloom.

With the help of this great community I hope to establish many great friends willing to critique and suggest beneficial ideas. This is the beginning of a long journey but one I wish to share with you all. Now on to the ART!! :mod:

Hello everyone. Well I will post some older stuff as usual to get the thread going. This first piece I actually just finished. It was a quick sketch and mostly to capture a moment that I felt at the time. Just a girl staring at you on a sunny day at the beach. Beauty in women is something I am very passionate about (but then again, who isn't?) so I like doing little candid sketches like these. Just a soft round brush with lowered opacity.

Good to hear the enthusiasm! CA is a great community and as long as you keep updating, will keep up the encouragement and critiques. Nice hand, well proportioned, it looks like you have a tablet so feel free to go crazy! Can't wait to see what's next...

Ok so I graduate this Friday and I needed to have a flat book. Here are the pages from that book. It's a compilation of different styles and techniques.

hey jc...
saw this stuff when you launched the other day... understand that sometimes it can take a little bit to get back. great looking work... have previously commented on the website and demo reels so won't go into that here. strongest i'm finding here is the finished renders on the animal concepts. dude with dreads rendered with ink is looking pretty sweet. the figurative stuff needs some work, as does your line economy in general. looks like the flip book was pretty sharp... however if the pages were mirrored, did the angled notebook paper on the left side create a series of "v"s descending along the gtter of the book? just wondering... i do print setup and graphics and that's the kind of thing i'd watch out for. also i'mwondering... why notebook paper? Not criticizing that choice, but it's certainly unique and unusual.

where were you sunday man? the catl-Yule party was a blast!

DRAW WITH US SOON!

I attended the CATL meeting and it def. added some motivation to my art. King Unicorn really laid it out to me telling me how I could either be making money but not having satisfaction or be doing what you love....I think the key is surrounding myself around art and all kinds of art in order to "create your artistic mental library" which is what I really need. To explore all styles and techniques while learning more about who I am. Anywho, here is a quick doodle I did at work today:

Hey, JCA. I just wanted to drop in and throw some additional support your way.

Just to clarify my earlier statements, I do believe that you have to balance taking care of your needs with pursuing your dreams. If you don't create a foundation that supports you - pays the bills, keeps you fed, provides you with emotional fortitude - you run the risk of being pulled further away from where you want to be. I'm not saying that you can't create wonderful art while struggling with debt, working three jobs, and watching your relationships fall apart. I'm saying that having the peace of mind and clarity of thought that comes from having those supports in place will help prevent you from having to make certain compromises that push your dreams further out of reach.

You'll find enough things to destabilize your life along the way. And periods of instability aren't always bad. If this recent opportunity to travel does come through and you're willing to make that leap, go for it. I think you'll find the risks - if you can even call them that - will be eclipsed by the rewards.

As for your art, you know where you want to be. Keep that place in mind as you work. This thread will open up and reveal to us your path as you progress from where you are today to where you're heading. There are many thoughtful and talented artists in this community who will help you succeed.

Looking forward to seeing new updates. And expect your friends here to push for great frequency.

Sigo caminando.....aprediendo poco a poco.

I just returned from vacation in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic and it for some reason instilled this sense of artistic need to draw and continue to progress as an artist. There are many paths that I wish to undertake, but this one is one that I know I can be good at...if only I apply myself. Here are some sketches that I did at work and at home. Hand studies, objects, and a figurine.
