So I'm taking AVT 104 this semester, which is basically just an introduction to the fundamentals of art. It is the art departments prerequisite before you can take things like life drawing, painting, digital media, etc. My professor was showing us all these slides of various pieces, to familiarize us with different styles. He wasn't saying much about the artists, just flipping through. A lot of it was interesting, some of it just didn't do it for me, but one piece in particular impacted on me immediately. I stopped him mid sentence and asked who the artist was, to which he replied "Alphonse Mucha I believe." When I got to work this evening I immediately did a Google search and have had my jaw consistently on the floor ever since. I also searched this site and saw his name mentioned a few times here as well. If anyone has any particular favorite piece by him, or another artist with a similar style they'd like to share, please do. I'm very anxious to research this artist more! Thanks! :D

Mucha is one of the best known figure in the Art Nouveau current. Some of my favorite pieces from him aren't that well known since they've been featured on boxes of various food products. I think my grandma still has some of those... Actually, I have a reproduction of this (http://www.artrenewal.com/images/artists/m/Mucha_Alphonse/large/Moet_and_Chandon_White_Star_1899_23x60.8cm.jpg) on silk at home. His play posters are very nice too.
Check Art Renewal (http://www.artrenewal.com/asp/database/art.asp?aid=598) for some of his work !
P.S.: hope you have high speed ;)

Some of my farvorite works by him are his pastels and oils, which are harder to find because he rarely used them professionally. There's a big book on him, "The Spirit of Art Nouveau," that has a lot of his sketches and paintings.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely recalling Mucha's influence in several places now that I'm aware of his style. I'm a big comic book fan so I know I've seen work that takes after Mucha in that medium (Adam Hughes first springs to mind) .
Egerie-I actually have that piece set as my desktop wallpaper now. Thanks for the referral to Art Renewal. There's a ton of great stuff on that site.
Tedsuo-I appreciate the heads up on that book. It's a bit pricey, but I may have to go ahead and get it anyway.
Thanks again!
