That's a really old machine, what exactly is your price range? You could get an entry-level iMac that will handle CS3 fine right out of the box for ~$1200.

sounds awfully old... something from the 90's!
you should be looking at dualcore/2gbram/200+gb at least... and that's not even talking above average specs...

I really only need this to run to learn the basics most of my work is in painter X, that sounds like a power horse. Later I will be buying the monster. But hey if that is what it takes to open the soft ware up and do some basics. than dam let me hold off on my morgage payment.

fair enough... it will run I think..
But to be honest with you unless you are getting that machine for free or $50~100 range..I seriously wouldn't bother... it's really old... I mean really... I haven't touched a mac for sometime but few years back I had a machine that was 1ghz/768/60gb which wasn't all fun to use.. I rarely ever loaded illustrator(9) and PS(6) at the same time..
another thing..
is creative suite available on OS9? is that machine capable of OSX? I have no idea about OS stuff since I only had OS9 on it and creative suite wasn't around.. But someone else might be able to help you out there...

well for $45.. haha.. at least you got the price bit right..
best to check minimum spec on CS3.. I have a feeling you are going to need OSX on your mac.. and not sure if it will run OSX.. even if it does, it's probably border line... meaning it will be realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly slow... cs3 would require bit of grunt since it's aimed at machines configured these days..

For $45 bucks it's worth it. I wouldn't run anything past PS7 on it, though. (Don't worry, btw, seven is fine for digital painting.) When you get it, max out the RAM, it should be able to handle at least a gig and mac RAM upgrades are easy.
