arizona nights are the best. the first week of when the desert finally cools down at night i was flipping through my sketchbooks and came across a pot leaf drawn in my fucking book! i hate when people other people draw in my books, let alone when people draw pot leaves! i have dedicated a hatefull abyss in my mind for drawings like the nature .. such as skulls with snakes wrapped within them, or stuck with swords .. the wu-tang clan's logo (what is with that?!) you know, things that i find tacky .. like when you see a terrible tatoo.

i was wondering if anyone elses sketchbooks had other people's drawing in it.

goddammit , i hate it when they do that... the girl that sat next to me in my biology class last year thought she had to occupy a whole frickin page for a crappy panda bear while i was staring thru my micoscope. well yeah she didn't mean to make me angry, but my sketchbooks are somehow sacred. they are like a diary for me and i wouldn't dare writing in other people's diary, right?
that one night tho, a good friend of mine (that i happen to love... :( ) wrote something into my sketchbook... too bad she's mexican and i can't read a thing of it, but the fact that she wrote it makes it my favourite page in that book :D

im ready to pull swords if i even see someone pick it up... its not that im an ass... its just... its like your penis... its yours, its personal, and you dont want people grabbing it without permission.

mebbe i should work on a better analogy... ><

i gotta say i'm not with you on this one. i really don't care when people do this. i actually get a kick out of it and take pride in some of those drawings and consider them a gift. i know some aren't as well executed as others, but still, i feel that each drawing represents a part of the person who drew it. if i could have a drawing, even a stick figure or a pot leaf, in my sketchbooks from every person i've ever met i would consider myself blessed. i think you guys might feel different if it was andrew that drew in your sketchbook, wouldn't you?

i gotta admit, that's a pretty crappy pot leaf. how do you know it's not a type of evergreen?

I always get fucking girls drawing hearts in my sketchbooks... I mean if an artist wants to do a serious drawing in my sketch book so be it... but hearts and PENII in my sketchbook is no go folks!

i don't see how it could be so bad..

i love it when other artists draw in my sketchbook. i wish i could do it more often. it's like getting an autograph, specially when the artist is good. one time my friend issac and i went at drawing heads and facial features back and forth, and it's happened other times with my artist friends.

but yeah, it can get annoying like when someone spills orange juice on your shirt. excited or pissed stupid people are dangerous in this situation and since my sketchbook is kinda like my soul, i don't want just anything in it.

It could be worse, people could take your sketchbook and start showing it around telling people that they drew it. That happened to me a couple of times.

ouch, that hurts...

concerning the issue:
i don't like people getting their fingers on my sketchbooks, let alone drawing/writing/whatever-ing in it.

it's totally different, though if it is an artist or a close friend. if the relation to this person is on these levels, it's okay for me.
then, i see it more like a gift or a honoration.
i could imagine meeting with an artist friend, drawing a whole night, talking about things and finally doing a drawing in each other's sketchbook.
then, it's like respect and a mark of friendship. a lot of memories of the situation when the drawing was done come with it, too.

i find a sketch books for me tend to have different levels of importance to me. I have one my girlfriend is always gettng ahold of and putting silly things in, but she is my girlfriend, and we are very personal with each other.

I remember having a party at my house, and someone found my only sketchbook I had at the time (came with me from school). I found it under some crap under some more crap under... (you get the idea). apart from some of my more favorite sketches being ruined from beer, jello shots, and punch, I found a new sense of what other people thought of my work. I found, also, a new inspiration from the people who tore into my book with their chicken scratches. there was an unrefined look that I could never duplicate, but, if i could, there would be something really powerful direction for my art.

Again, this is an extreme idea, but it allowed me to be tolerant to let people draw in my book. I agree with davi, though, put your thoughts in it, give me something to remember your thoughts of the time we had.

wow i totally agree! first off I can and will go berserk if someone grabs my sketchbook and flips through it like a cheep novel!
ASK PERMISSION PLZ to look in my personal sketchbook because it is personal. my sketchbook is like a picture diary each page
is dated and titled. Only once back in high school did a classmate scribble on a page, and i never left my book unguarded again.
yes I'm a sensitive artist... :nod:

I have sketchbook sessions here in LA all the time and we all draw up in eachothers books.... Every time I get a drawing I consider it a cool thing and feel that as long as the person who hit my book up tried to make it cool... then its all good... I cant say everything that ive recieved is SUPER DOPE or BAD ASS..... however the good DEFINITELY outweigh the bad....
especially when you get to hang out with animators .. Illustrators and artists who work in industry job as well as just out there doin it!... :)

I feel everyone on the swooping of books though.. its a Muther F#*&er when someone drops Junk in your book and doesnt ask or let you know ... Ive been pretty lucky... doesnt happen much.. I keep all my books on a shelf in my studio and the recent unfinished ones in a backpack that I take everywhere, just in case ya know!...
I suppose its an individualistic call.... depends on how open or private you are about your sketchbook.

I always carry three sketchbooks, two of them are 6 by 9's that cost 28 bucks at the bookstore (53 Php to a dollar which brings them to about...just over 50 cents each). Anything goes in my junk books, including other people's junk. And I actually prefer that they do, so long as they ask and I'm cool or if I offer.

but NOBODY touches my Cansons! *hiss*

Has Thunderdome champ gotten his sketchpad? Man he'd better post the contents when he does, spread the wealth..!

i usually don't show my sketchbooks to people who don't draw , and i never bring it around =/ when i do draw it's in school notes during class , and if people want to join in and draw i don't mind i guess.

there was once in calculus class i was drawing a unicorn and my friend drew a piece of poop next to it =_=;;;

oh there was once when i was with a bunch of artist friends and one of them laughed so hard while he was eating , he puked/spat out all the noodles in his mouth onto my drawing. And i was a good 3 feet away hehehe. One of my best artist memories ^^

i don't like it if people use my drawing equipment for non-drawing stuff - like using my drawing pencil for drawing graphs in calculus , or using my inking pens for writing greeting cards >:( first off , it's bad for the artistic karma in the equipment =P second, using Pigma micron for writing notes is just wasteful , don't people know how much art equipment costs !? ;;;_;;;

most of the time i dont mind too much, but generally ppl ask before they draw in my books (being real tall and angry looking helps there :p) as long as they take thir own page and dont draw on/around my stuff i think its kinda nice to have someone leave a part of themselves in my book. but no pot leaves :mad: ....stoopid stoners...
