A planer sculpture referance tool created by painter and teacher John Asaro.
Anyone know where I could get one?
Thanks for any help.

Perhaps you meant John Asaro. His bust is, from what I've heard, extremely rare and hard to find. I remember a discution elsewhere to get some copies of one of those. I could try and dig it up (or at least the pictures from it) if you want ?

Hey, I've got one of these. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. It's ceramic, white and it's about a foot and a half tall. The left side is modeled to resemble a 'younger face' while the right is more complex and resembles an 'older face.'
The bust comes with a small booklet that contains some useful information. Some nice observations on the human eyes and nose. I'll post some scans of the bust to see if this is the one you are looking for. If not today then tomorrow for I'm at work right now and we're really pretty busy. (But not too busy to surf here!)
As for obtaining one, I didn't get this bust from the sculptor, Mr. Asaro, himself. I had to write to some lady and get it from her. I'm almost positive it wasn't his wife. Somebody else. Anyway, I think her address is still on the back of the sculpture and when I post the scans I'll include it here. The price was, I think, $40(?). Maybe more. It's been a while.

O.k. then. I didn't think many people would be interested in this. Anyway, if the mods don't want this displayed then please take it down. Thanks.

The lady at the address below is selling copies of the above sculpture. Anyone interested should first write to her to see if she is a) still selling these and b) what the cost is. [The sculpture doesn't have all those black lines on it. The artist just did that to highlight the edges.]
The whole thing is ceramic and about 18 inches high.
edit: I took the address down since this is no longer offered.

But I called and talked to David Melick(her husbund I think) and he said Nancy no longer sells them and doesn't know who does. :(
So does anyone else have any leads?

Sorry to hear that. I got mine about 2 years ago. You think this lady would have a website and turn this into a nice little side job for some extra cash...
Anyway, a buddy of mine in class first told me about it. He found it by browsing through old art magazines he had. There was a small ad for it in the back. So you may want to try that. Flip through any old issues of magazines you may have and you might find a new lead that way. Then there are always flea markets. You might find something that way. I keep hearing people find old Andrew Loomis books that way.
Good luck on your search.

Beer Baron : I thought one side was more feminin and the other with more masculine traits ? Just what I heard, mind you... But I'd love to have even a crude plastic (gasp!) copy of that sculpture...

I think one side is more simplified and the other more detailed. "Low poly/high poly", so to speak.

You both are pretty much right. The left is simplified, feminine-like and younger looking while the right is more complex, angular and older like a man's face.
