Hours worked. . . in a day? A week? Ever? You need to work on your question-writing skills.
Most companies typically require 40-hour weeks of their employees, with the expectation that employees will put in overtime when necessary, known as “crunch”. Companies that ask their employees to crunch frequently or for extended periods of time without appropriate compensation have a tendency to scare their employees off to companies that are better managed.

Heehe. That's better. 8 hours a day, five days a week, on non-crunch days.

My current contract requires 40h/week MINIMUM. Listen to Seedling, our forum “authoritay” and resource on the gaming industry ;)
It can climb to 70h/week on production crunches which can last from 4 months to 2 weeks depending on the project. Your position within the team will also influence the number of extra hours you need to put in. There are obviously exceptions…
I’ve personally done a few 32h straight (day, night, go back home for half an hour to take a shower and change, then day again) in pre-production. Coming on weekends is not an alien concept either. And I’m about to change that as I’m getting older.
