View Full Version : Guilty Pleasures

These days, browsing through my mp3s, it seems there's more cheesy, naff, embarassing tracks than hip, cutting edge stuff. Now I know you are a discerning lot, too cool for school and all that, and as such wouldn't dream of listening to anything that had a cat in hell's chance of making into the mainstream, or heaven forbid, the charts!
But there's bound to be some tracks you wouldn't normally admit to liking. Here's a couple of mine. To my lasting shame I've already subjected the UK thread to these monuments to cheese.

Oh man, you guys are weaksauce! Those aren't guilty pleasure songs, those are just 80s classics.
THESE are guilty pleasure songs. And yes, I dance to them all in my undies. :steph:

This used to be my favourite as young lad. I've still got the 7"vinyl!
And i hadn't seen the video for more than twenty years until Mr.Pudding's thread prompted me to look for it! Splendid!

That's not a guilty pleasure, just one of the best records ever made! Love it! I met Rose McDowall from Strawberry Switchblade, (the dark haired one) and she's ace. She also sings with another of my favourite bands Current 93. And Jonny, if you want to borrow the CD I'll pop round with it... ;)

Here, let me pick that name up for you. :)
Duq and dfacto: may god have mercy on your souls. Isn't that Jennifer Conolly in the vid with the lipgloss wearing, hairsprayed ponce?

Dfacto: Lol those are sweet... I'd only seen that first one before..
Duq: Oh my... Gunther, that's just horrible. Even worse that he's actually swedish, though he tries to look german...
But who am I to judge, here are some guilty pleasures of mine... I admit the videos had a big influence on me incorporating these songs in my music library... :D

HAHAHAHA GUNTHER!!! I only heard of him recently but I'm already sold.
Guilty musical pleasures... JUST FOR YOU, SUMMER PUDDIN'!!!
When I was first dating my ex, he did a really cute arrangement of "Achilles Heel" (http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/9/23/1454088/01%20Tennis%20Elbow%20%28Epic%20Mix%29.mp3) by now-defunct Toploader for me because I was obsessed with the song. He told me how much he liked the song, which made me pause because even I know the song is pure guilty pleasure crap. Once we broke up, the truth all spilled out and he deleted every trace of the song and arrangement from his memory (and hard drive) with a vengeance. Can't blame him :sadcheerleader:
And now, I present to you the horrible (original) song and video. STILL ON MY TOP 25 ITUNES BABY!

P.S. Both the singer and his girlfriend have really bad hair >_>

Although I will admit to this one....sort of...
"Oh yeah, I like instrumental music."
"Like classical music?"
"....yeah...let's go with that."

"HAHAHAHA GUNTHER!!! I only heard of him recently but I'm already sold."
Only recently? He has been filling my nights with hot lyrics like "I come to you in the night with my shiny body in my ferrari" and "I'm the king in my golden string" since 2003! :rocker:
Now this really lame band from Finland, they actually won a european music festival and brought all the wrongness of metal to an entirely new level...
(yes I got all the cd's, just as gunthers >_>)

I have some funny things from 80th, 90th too... but they are in Russian... not sure if it is interesting to anyone.
OK, can't control myself
this is one of my favorite from 1991.
The story in it is some poor accountant comes to new music salon to spend money on women and live a fantasy life for some short time. Money are probably not his. In the beginning he orders a song about life and himself.
The clip name is "Buchgalter". ("Accountant")...
