This is basically my first serious attempt at using digital colors to enhance my concept drawings. This character is called Bludgeonn, a war demon who takes the form of a man to butcher the world of mortals. I'm working on this piece using a Wacom tab and Painter 8. Obviously this is a WIP, so please, crits are MORE than welcome...

Very very very very cool. Exaggerated muscles, Got a design for the face? Armour plating here and there could be cool. Love the pose, the tones of the body so far and the insane muscles.

I dig it. The only thing...

There's something weird going on with the upper torso. It looks like that whole part of the picture has been stretched upward, and it screws up the perspective. I think you can remedy the problem pretty easily by using "distort" or "perspective" on it to squash it into shape.

Lookin good mike! i love the hands and the musculature of the forearms. no real big crits at this point, just some little stuff

i think his head looks a little detached from his body...i know its supposed to be small, but i have a hard time visualizing how those massive neck muscles are fitting into the base of his skull and underneath his jaw. his serratus is also inserted a little weird; instead of inserting into his pecs they should wrap around his torso horizontally toward his abdomen. His pecs are looking a little flat, but i think just working the values will fix this. As for the skin tones, try varying the color a little...like where blood pools on the skin it has a little more red, the shadows have some blue, etc...etc...make sure you're not timid when you lay down the color, because that will end up in a lot of wheel spinning; its better to just lay down the initial color with nice broad confident strokes than sitting there picking away at it with a 3 pixel brush; save the small brushes for detail work.

make sure you figure out where your lights are coming from; his right shoulder and upper right pectoral is a little warm compared to the other areas of his body that are getting hit by the same light; just stay consistent as to what light is striking which body part. it looks like the light hitting his back, shoulders, and head is white, while the fill light on his abs is a warmer color. if you can really work your highlights and fill lights it'll help really flesh out your painting, really make it pop

email chris b. and deborah; i havent really taken any formal figure painting classes so everything i know is just kind of picked up. chris b. knows his anatomy like the back of his FACE so he could really help you fine-tune it, and he's had a lot of painting instruction. and of course deborah is deborah and she knows what she's doing. this figure also reminds me of some of bryce's work, i'm sure he could give you some good input

looking good though, i'm jealous! post the update
