Pen sketch of Mervin from the "Sandman" series. I'd really appreciate any crits on pen technique, especially for creating textures.

this is really cool, maybe just a tad more contrast? Like, the darkest darks could be darker :) if that made sense!
I haven't read the dreaming, but the picture sure got me interested.

One thing that might help is that you use pens of varying widths. This drawing is really neat, but the others are right that the darks need to be darker. With wider pens, you can make sure you don't leave any white paper where you want the darks to be. If you really want a part to look dark, put a really light section right next to it. It's a little trick that your eye plays on you. When two opposites are on a page (light v. dark or complimentary colors such as red and green) right next to each other, they make each other brighter and more vibrant (whites look whiter and darks look darker).
