path selection question

Hi i'm using CS2.

i've been using a lot of paths for filling, stroking, and selecting stuff using the paths pallete.

The problem i have is that after i draw a closed path with the pen tool, I go to (for example) fill that path. Instead of filling the path it fills everything else. i can reverse this by selecting the "Path Selection Tool" and then clicking the 'add to shape area' option at the top option bar.

My question is, how do i set the path options to default to "add to shape area" and not "subtract to shape area". Sometimes I will be working and the path will "add" and sometimes it will "subtract" as default. I'm guessing there is away to set one to always default.

Kind of a weird question. Any thoughts?

click the right button before you start drawing.....it should save the option till you change it, if you draw the line, then click it it works kinda different...i remember this being a pain in my balls at some point too
