I'm planning on getting an Intuos to replace my old tablet soon, and I noticed they have the 6x8 in the regular size and in widescreen. I've got a widescreen laptop, so would it be better to pay the bit extra for widescreen, or is it some fancy gimmick that's not really worth it? My old tablet never worked with this laptop, so I never got to see if it's annoying having a regular tablet on a widescreen.

I switched from a normal screen to a widescreen with my same tablet, and I can't tell any difference(somehow your eyes automaticaly make up for the stretch). However, if you try to trace a perfect circle, it comes out as an oval. So as long as your not tracing, it should be perfectly fine to get the normal tablet.

The distortion that Kek is talking about actually makes a subtle but important difference. It means that any diagonal line you draw on the tablet will have a different angle from the line that appears on the screen. You can get used to it, but then you're getting used to drawing slightly distorted.
Whichever tablet you get, make sure you check the "Force Proportions" checkbox in the "Mapping" tab in the Wacom settings. This makes a portion of the tablet active that has the same proportions as the screen- the rest has no effect. However this means that the lines on the monitor will match the angle of the lines drawn on the tablet. If you have a widescreen monitor and the 6x8 tablet, you would be wasting the bottom inch or two of the tablet. The 6x11 (or whatever it is) will be much closer in proportion (though I still recommend checking "Force Proportions" in case they're slightly different.) Anyway, I think the widescreen tablet is only a bit more expensive.

Thanks, I'll be getting the widescreen :) I just wanted to be sure it's worth it because it's going to be a birthday present from my parents and I didn't want them paying the extra for no reason.
