Hello!

Since i haven't been on CA for a long while, i thought it was better to start a with a new sketchbook. Mainly because i 'lost' my old Sketchbook, and i want to start fresh again (and my book was not that great..).
I'm planning to keep on drawing/sketching daily and post my stuff. When i first visited conceptart, i got very depressed and jealous of all the talent over here. Now, i can whine about it, or keep on practicing!!!
So i'm not that good as most of y'all, but please give me critique!! I very much appreciate it.

First, i'm starting out with some 'old' stuff. I don't really have a style yet, so that's why i'm here, trying to develope one!

You really should. Broaden your expertise.

I'm seeing some really hot portraits, but it'd be nice to see some finished full figures.
That way, it's easier to spot your weaknesses. Keep it up with the figure studies!

i really should get more into men as well, but women are just nicer to draw : )
some finished full figures should be coming soon. i've got some ideas i have to work out, so watch out for it :)

I tend to stick to women too, haha. I probably wouldn't even know where to begin with drawing a male now. Anyway, one thing I would say is to try and push the contast more and get some darker darks. I think a lot of your pencil drawings could benefit from this. I'd agree with the comment asking for more finished full figures too. Good luck.

thanks nolarc, you're right about drawing males as well. i don't have a clue :P
Bout the contrast, i think the lack of it is also because of my lousy scanner. but i'll try to make 'the dark more darker' :)

hey thanks for dropping by my book.

You got some good stuff going, seems like you're on the right way. On this last one - get a higher value range in there. The darkest value there should be almost black, and the lightest almost white. Save pure black and pure white for last when you just want to add some highlights. There's no need to gradually work it lighter or darker here - you only need to do it gradually when you're working with charcoal or pencil, and you cannot just add white back in. Giving it more contrast will also make it easier to judge and continue.

Anycase, hope that helped. keep it up you have some interesting things developing!

Good to see you decided to do males after all :P The tones on the last one are way better than the start, but still the arm could use more contrast and some darker tones on the upper arm.

The pear by the way looks really flat, i think probably because of the little difference in shadow and lighted areas. Also, the red background kind of hurts the eye :P

Wow - I don't find anything to crit myself, I think that your work is great. :) Perhaps a few of the faces seem somewhat 'flat', but even then they have something special going - like very detailedly drawn hair. Especially your digital work is awe-inspiring. Great depth / values!

Wow, thank you for that compliment. i always thought my stuff was way inferior to the other threads around here! I'll try to give my pencil works some depth in the future and i still need a lot of excersise in digital drawing, but thank you so much for the crits ;)

Hey, thanks for the comment in my sketchbook.

I like the digital studies, they are really good for learning how to show form.
On the faces, you don't really have to draw in so many strands of hair. It kind of draws attention
away from the face. Instead, maybe draw the hair in larger groups, and concentrate more on the
values and form of it. I read a book by Jack Hamm where he talks about that.

Great job, the figure studies are looking good also, keep it up.

after a looooooooong time, finally getting some work done!
Too bad i'm not at my own computer, got myself an iMac, I'm at my folks PC and drew it with a mouse. I miss my Wacom....!
