View Full Version : What's Your favorite B Movies?

I have to admit I'll watch just about anything. If someone tells me it's bad and a waste of time, you will see me put down money the next day to see it. I do have some bad taste in movies, but at least I know it's bad....sometimes.

It's also a good learning process of what NOT to do... or it can be inspiration. What's a bad movie was probably an experimentation in something new that didn't go to well. As artists, we are not all psychics. Or, we just don't appeal to the common market. What bad movies teach... don't ever be afraid to try something new, and you signed a contract with a tight deadline now film it and cut it with safety scissors and elmers glue. Let's GO!

Only one movie at a time. Everyone gets a chance to be cool and different.

This movie had a lot of potential to be cool. But, I found a lot of this intentionally and unintentionally funny, and I would have to say the best quote EVER is...

"We heard ninjas attacked the hospital. Are you alright?"

The fight scenes had complaints about not being flashy and dynamic. Now, I know the fight scenes were not shot too well, but in my oppinon they had a realism to them except for a few parts. It sort of reminded me of the fights in Yojimbo or Seven Samurai (both by Akira Kurosawa).

It's your typical, Westerner goes to Japan to play with Samurai and Ninjas movie. Kill Bill and The Last Samurai may have been "inspired" by a few parts from this as well. Anyway, it's lackluster and pretty straight forward with a huge budget. I could care less about any of the characters except for the drunk blacksmith, but that made it all the better. Even though it was corny, some of the intentional humor such as the one liners the main character (yes he's the guy who played Highlander and Raiden in Mortal Kombat which also made it fun to watch) were quite good.
Anyway, if you feel like wasting time. Go ahead and try to watch it. Also, sorry for the bad review ;) "with a bad movie, comes a bad and horribly written review.".

Be Kind, Rewind.

the 1966 Batman movie with Adam West.. soo many great memorable qotes:

"They may be drinkers, Robin, but they're still human beings."

Batman: Look at this pair of joking riddles.
Chief O'Hara: [reads] What does a turkey do when he flies upside down?
Robin: He gobbles up!
Chief O'Hara: Of course.
Batman: And, number two...
Commissioner Gordon: [reads] What weighs six ounces, sits in a tree and is very dangerous?
Robin: A sparrow with a machine gun!
Commissioner Gordon: Yes, of course.

"Have you lost your mind, Batman?"
"Not at all Robin... here, take this pill."

Batman: It's a low neighborhood, full of rumpots. They're used to curious sights, which they attribute to alcoholic delusions.
Robin: Gosh, drink is sure a filthy thing, isn't it? I'd rather be dead than unable to trust my own eyes!

Flicks like "Pirahna", "The Brood", "Beastmaster", "..Buckaroo Banzai" and even The Evil Dead series.

I like that stuff. Oh, wait, "Dead Alive" was pretty cool, too. Oh, oh.....I even like "Bats".

oh man, b movies are the greatest thing ever even if it makes me a huge nerd for loving them.

evil dead and bubbahotep already got mentioned so that covers bruce cambel

batman was also mentioned but adam west aslo appears as a racist alcoholic cop in zombie nightmare (http://imdb.com/title/tt0092297/)

tank girl (http://imdb.com/title/tt0114614/), based off of the comic books of the same name by jamie hewlet (of gorillaz fame)

plan 9 from outer space (http://imdb.com/title/tt0052077/) is a classic example of fail

escape from new york (http://imdb.com/title/tt0082340/) might be my favorite film ever.

gymkata (http://imdb.com/title/tt0089243/) is hilarious and also makes a great drinking game

dark star (http://imdb.com/title/tt0069945/) is actually legitimately funny and good, just on a shoestring budget

the same foes for six string samurai (http://imdb.com/title/tt0118736/)

dynamite warrior (http://imdb.com/title/tt0963915/) is a story about the most convoluted way to sell tractors there is

any episode of mst3k (http://imdb.com/title/tt0094517/) is wonderful as well, most notably future war, the final sacrifice, mitchel, puma man, warrior of the lost world and manos: the hands of fate

Six String Samurai is a film I really wanted to like. I watched the whole thing, but I can never watch it again. It was just so drawn out and lacked the energy in acting and action that was not compareable to the design of the characters and the premise of the story themselves. The Mad Max series still carries the title for best post apoc movie, along with The Last Man on Earth (old I am Legend movie).

Bubba Ho Tep is an all time favorite. I especially choked up a little at the ending.

Black Sheep is a new B movie that I like. It's about rampaging mutated sheep thirsty for blood. It was made in New Zealand I believe.

Also, anything from Edward D.Wood is the holy grail of bad movie making.

Edit::Little tid-bit. The Last Man on Earth (I Am Legend) also inspired Romero when he made the Night of the Living Dead.

Oh my God, that looks terrible!... :tihi: Kinda gives Plan 9 a run for its money... And man, Plan 9 seriously, seriously sucked...

I love the trailer but too bad some of the actors still look like they're from the year 2000 with their acting instead of 1950s (except for that Animalia gal--PERFECT!)... Their acting alone easily gave the movie away (for me at least) that it's not an authentic 1950 film...

Ghostbusters. Yeah! :)

I don't remember much B movies. Maybe Omega Doom with Rutger Hauer. Movie set in postapocalyptic world. I could barely find any trailer for it on the net.

Star Wars (old ones of course) is as much of a b-movie as any other independent movie from that time. It was made, but remember what most of us know as "A New Hope" is a restored version. The originals were the shit, but still b-movie. Oh and of course that goes for all dialog in the movies, old or new. Rather badly done. Of course I love the movies. I'll be watching A New Hope in a few minutes on DVD. So much fun. They had a dvd recommendation on the radio today when I was driving through the area. Just the sounds. It was hard not to be moved to tears. :D

EDIT: Don't take this too serious. I think I don't know b-movies enough to appreciate them.

Rhona Mitra from that Beowulf movie is actually the original model for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Shame they didn't cast her in the movie though lol. I hate Angelina's acting in anything that isn't "Hackers". Well, Mr and Mrs Smith was OK.

That medieval setting combined with a techno soundtrack... a true b-movie classic. xD
And it totally owns the new Beowulf.
