i want my kitteh! http://www.peratt.com/jan/upload/ilaekae-mad.gif

amazing renders, romance. i think the first red-armoured bug and the embryonic one you have as the thumbnail are my faves of the collection :)

Nice work, dude. Your electric swamp dweller with the blue claws and crest was one of my favorite creatures in the whole of CoW 100. I love the range of textures you achieved in the first creature as well.
I'm kinda afraid to pet these kitties, though. Are you sure they're friendly?

Awesomesaucesome. You have some really nice pieces there. Too bad about the kittens though.

you always have the coolest creatures man! Do you always do b&w first? have you ever tried straight color?

I gotta say. I'd rather have your digital poop over a free kitteh (I'd prolly kill it on accident.)

Awesome reptilian gorilla thingy.

Damn good-looking work Rob - and I think I already told ya how impressed I was with the 100 creatures, but I was really blown away. Great designs , high quality and all very diverse...that's not easy to do in a short amount of time.

I like that new bad boy on top too- he looks like he could stand on 2 feet as well -which is cool! You definitely have a future in creature design.
Cheers bro!

These are really good. That first big guy feels like he has real mass to him.
You've obviously been working really hard, time to let loose in Seattle!

Very Nice work Rob,
Love the skin texture on the first creature..and you know I loved your cow entries, these are some real nice ones. I liked that strange pink bunny looking one too that isn't here. It had big ears, a rat/rabbit face and looked something like a pig in-between.

Well Rob, i have to say i was a bit disappointed that there were no free kittens, but you made up for iy by posting awesomeness. I loved your take on the creatures (you had my vote). I dunno if I'll be able to make it out to Seattle, but maybe I'll catch you at another workshop sometime in the near future. Keep kicking booty, pirate -

stoph - Thanks mate! Sorry no kittens, but I'll see if I can't add a few when I post more work.

Moai - Thanks! I assure you they are all friendly. I trained them myself. Look forward to meeting you in Seattle.

LORD M - Thank you.

Interceptor - It's paying off? How can I forget you? Dude, we have matching jackets.

Pavel Sokov - Thank you. It's an honor. That creature is one of my favorites. Zbrush for the win!

Skeiff - Thanks bro! I will usually start off anything I'm painting in b&w. I just find it quicker and easier to apply colors mid way through or towards the end of the painting. I will occasionally start something in full color, but I find I'll end up spending too much time noodling the hues and then the value, form, and design might end up suffering.

Kamikazebob - Thanks Bob! Don't worry, all my free kittens come with helmets.

scott*altmann - Cheers Scott, you sexy beast.

voodoochile - Thanks Rich. Your a sexy beast too.

daveneale - Thanks Dave! I enjoyed your COW100 entry as well. Especially your deep sea monsters! Inspiring.

Craig D - Thanks Craig! See you in Seattle brother. I hope you bring your beer belly.

MikeCorriero - I like that one too, guess I forgot to throw it in this post :P Post some new stuff will ya! Cheers mate.

johnpowell - Thanks John.

Majora - Thanks!

guterrez - Cheers! I wish I had time to put in more details! Maybe later ;)

Kian - Thanks Jon! I can't wait to see what you bring to the LMS3.

Mr. Visions - Sorry to disappoint you about the kittens Chris. I'll put some in with my next post ;) Thanks for your vote and I hope we get to meet again soon.

Zord - Thanks John. Can't wait to drink and draw with you in Seattle! M...m...m...mission.

dwan - Thanks!

I guess some tasty art will do. Nice work on the COW entries. Great color and textures.

Once bitten, twice shy....can't count on your CA title for content, I see.

Was kind of sad that there wasn't even a nice little batch of monster kitties that some scary kid was trying to give away. Maybe another time. :)

Good call Robin. Reduced the white a bit in the glow areas, a few color tweaks here and there, and cleaned up the rendering as a whole.

December 25th, 2007, 01:16 AM
Pistonhead is gross...gross in a good way. The flesh attached to the piston is what gets me, totally disgusting but I keep staring at it. And then I see the right arm and it's green skin tones all veiny-like and i'm like 'gag' ;) Really digging the new work man, cheers!

Great looking stuff, man. I especially love the rhino-esque creature. And I think I like the upper right version of him the best for the color variation. The red fin things just percolate my coffee. Anywho, do you use Photoshop for all of this or a combination of other programs? And did you learn some of your skills from any tutorials or anything? If so, please share. I need further instruction in my education :)

Another update... ROBOTS!

InvertedChalupa - Cheers Mike! It was definitely fun to paint!

robinchyo - the bigger the throw up, the bigger the compliment. thanks buddy. did you get that job in FL?

Ebony-chan - thanks!

Blitz-Craig - Thanks Craig. I use Photoshop for the majority of my work, but occasionally I'll use Painter and zBrush to mess around in. A few friends recommended Google Sketchup as a quick and dirty way of making some 3D, so I'll probably start diving into that shortly. As far as learning skill, I've learned much of what I know through DVDs, online tutorials, and reading; the foundations mostly. is a good starting point for the basics and Massive Black/Concept Art video tutorials are great for taking it to the next level. But don't rely on tutorials alone; try to observe, study and draw inspiration from your surroundings and experiences as well. Thanks again!

WhisperPntr - Thank you! Alas, I am still attempting to to land a job in the industry. I can only hope 2008 will be kinder than 2007 was.

WhisperPntr
December 26th, 2007, 03:03 PM
I know this rather sounds down on myself but if you're having trouble I'm doomed. I wonder if psychologists are needed. lol.

romance
December 26th, 2007, 04:21 PM
WhisperPntr - If psychologists got involved, I'd be put into a hospital for sure. As far as finding work goes... I think it all depends on how hard you look, where you look, who you know, and what your painting. I know plenty of people who find enough freelance and full-time work here on the forums and through contacts to keep themselves well fed. If you look in the right spots, and apply frequently to anything and everything that might suit your abilities, then your golden. If your portfolio and skill range is diverse then your chances of landing work increase a lot more too.

My work finding ethics are tainted, and while I preach the above, I hardly follow that ideal. Let's just say, this one trick pony is a picky bastard even though he shouldn't be.
