Hello!
As many guys here I'm also a new one. Not only to the forum (1st post) but to the digital painting also. I recently bought a tablet (not Wacom!! It's a Genius tablet.) and I read many tutorials and browsed this forum for a long time trying to learn. Thank you for all those tips and tricks to all of you.
This is one of the first tries of CG. It's in an early stage as you see but I usually have trouble with the proportions the positure and most of all the colors. So I need some c&c on that subjects.
(The white thing will become a lightsaber (ligts of that source will be added later))
Thx
(Scroll down for the updates.)

Here is the promised update. C&C are goooood. Pls give me more of them! :)
Shall I make it a bit lighter? The details may get lost on not properly calibrated monitors. What do you think?

Hey thats actually pretty nice man. I like the rendering on the face and clothes, but the boots i think need to stand out more cause right now it just kinda looks like hes standing in this blurry rivery background.
If you dont wanna do that then just make the background an actual environment, so it looks like hes in a setting. That way you can get some more of that lightsaber light onto the pic as well.
Also I agree with Fisk about the hands. His left hand should be bent backwards at the wrist. The way it is right now, the right hand would have to be bent foreward not back like you have it. I tried olding a stick with my hands that way and its not very comfortable let me tell ya. ;)
But i still like it despite that. I didnt notice this stuff at first.

Thanks. The background is to be detailed. I will experiment with the boots.
The position of the hands... Hmm. You see I'm learning a martial art for many years now and it includes swordfighting too. Actually you have to hold that thing in a more inconorftable position than on this pic. But hey, it's only a pic so I think I have to loose reality and please the eye more as you suggested.
Thx.
(I think this train of thought went beyond my english knowledge. :) )

It's nearly finished but need more work on the background. I plan to add some rocks and other things becouse it looks a bit homogeneous.
Any ideas are welcome.
(I haven't really touched the character now.)

I consider this finished. I know there are some problems but I don't really want to work on it anymore.
I'm quite pleased with this.
I'm going to post this to the finished section too but in case you want to see the process here is the pic.

actually, i beg to differ, if you check the hand position, it is still correct, it is the exact opposite of what you have in a more active state of movement. it works great for the pose

I think his hand position looks correct.
