Most art school students are female, but it seems like there's a lot of animation and video game related art on this site, and those are male dominated fields. Anyway yeah, I'm a girl.

Wuh? I meant "it is to laugh" at the idea that she's the only female artist here, since there's such a strong female presence on CA.

Making fun of someone because of english being their second language is like kicking grandmas in their dusty bread baskets. You just don't do it.

As a sidenote, chinese aint all that hard a language to learn... Basically non-existant grammar... Met a chinese girl once, and she taught me like 10 words in mandarin, and I was almost having conversations in mandarin, just mixing the words up. And it all turned out to be grammatically correct...

An example: Ni hao ma = How you doing, buddy? But literally: "You good, friend?" Wao shen hao = I'm fine, thanks = Literally: "I much good"

Everybody should speak mandarin, it seems like a dog-easy language to learn... To write it, now that's another thing...

Ok, sorry, Rhineville, I get it now. My bad. NOTE TO SELF: Do not post ANYTHING when it's in the middle of the night.

And Whyatt Trash; I'd love to learn mandarin (it's on my ToDo list), it fascinated me when I was a month in China this summer. Atm I can introduce myself, understand random words (really random like female, silence, luck, forest, stone, plum blossom, winter, pride)(they can be useful though, when I need to say "A silent lucky female with pride stood on a stone in a forest in the winter, beside plum blossoms". A key sentence to life.)
and count to 10. I can't write it down, though the beautiful characters is one of the reasons I want to learn it.

Mandarin is difficult to learn when you already know/speak a bit of Cantonese. Heh. I think what you're saying here is fine if you're going to be a tourist - but not so fine if you plan on staying there or needing to hold extended conversations in Mandarin.

And everyone should know at least one other language. Be it, Mandarin, Cantonese, French, German...etc.

You can also say Hi with a basic, Ni Hao in Mandarin or Nei Ho Ma in Cantonese.

PatriciaS: word. Languages is very important, and extremely rewarding. It takes some effort (though I just got 15 and I can speak Danish, English, German, French and some Norwegian, so it can't be that hard) but it's a thousand times worth it.

Haa sorry, being a chinese, i cant help but want to correct your slight mistake :p

Basic Chinese Lesson Starting
Chinese do have grammer and sentence structure. Our of interest, one language i heard that dont have grammer is Sanskrit.

Anyway, your "ni hao ma" is correct but your next one is abit wrong :P. It should be "Wo hen hao" meaning I am fine. You can add "Xie Xie" behind and it means thanks.

End of lesson :steph:

Great that there is a diverse group of nationality and ethnic group. Art really dont have any barrier and we should all try to learn and understand each other culture and language :)
