I am hoping to go on to do this sort of thing when i am older and am unsure of what courses etc to take.
and i was wondering how you guys learnt all of the skills you have, did you take lots of courses etc or did it just come naturally.
i will be very grateful for any response, thanks alot.

If there's one thing that I've learned during my short time on these boards:
Draw from life and draw ALOT.
And a couple of pointers. You should buy a sketchbook and carry it around with you and draw things that interest you.
Go to your local library and pick up books about art; anatomy, perspective drawing, painting, sculpting, books about the old masters (make sure it has lots of photos :) ) and draw like crazy, start setting yourself goals like "I'm gonna draw from 8 pm to 10 pm" and stick to it. Sooner than you can imagine, you'll be drawing 6 hours a day and loving it, even more :)
If you can imagine doing it for the rest of your life, start looking for art schools in your area and go for it :)
hope this helps you a bit and btw. how old are you?

:D haha 17 is practically way too late. I say this because I'm also 17.
kortez's advice is really sound. another thing you can do is post your progress in these art forums and get some feedback. When you know where you can improve, you can work towards that.
